Not going to buy it then. Level 5 had three chances to convince me that they can make a good JRPG and they messed up on pretty much all accounts everytime.

You hated DQVIII?

Of course. Endless grinding and comparable to the rest of the series slow battles (DQIX suffers from the same). Hundreds of collectable items and an overloaded alchemy system make a guide mandatory. Terrible dungeon design, horrendous battle theme. Lame sidequests, weak story.
All these things got even worse in Dragon Quest IX. Even more items and alchemy. Plus the various available classes multiplied the tedious and repetitive grinding. Worst of all, randomly generated caves.
The other Level 5 JRPG I played was Rogue Galaxy and it's very similar to their DQ games. Grinding and tons of items. All their games are made with the goal to take the player a very long time to complete. There absolutely is no intention to make a game that people would want to replay.

To be fair, almost everything you mentioned is subjective.I loved the music, scope, dungeons, classic style, monster arena, etc. The story is standard fare, but like every other DQ game, you get the most from character interactions and the little mini narratives the party encounters.
