Forums - Nintendo - Here we go again: Heavy Rain creator calls Wii a toy and board game

to be fair, i think he is misunderstood here, he isn't american and had lots of typos before with his english language , i bet he is saying "its a fun console" instead of a "funny toy"

I guess some of his sentiment could get lost in translation.  They also don't have Netflix Wii in France and that is probably the most popular multimedia capability that the Wii has in North America.

Ok, let's get rid of our Wiis and go out to buy a ps3 with Heavy Rain,  at once!

so what if it is a toy? I like toys!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Chess is more hardcore than videogames.

This means the PS2 and PSP are toys then as well because the Wii can do everything they can do (yes the Wii can play DVD's). This guy obviously knows nothing about the Wii and is probably trying to get a few cheap digs in to sway gamers away from the Wii.

I on the other hand have never seen consoles as toys.

Your logic fails my friend. The psp is portable. And the ps2 is 10 years old.

You can get a screen and a battery pack for the Wii to make it portable and the PS2 is still in production.

is every consumer really going to do that? Is that really what nintendo is trying to sell on? No. They are trying to compete with the ps3/360 in the market...not the ps2 and the psp.

That maybe so but it doesn't deter the fact that the PS2 and PSP (which are still being produced by Sony) are inferior to the Wii which in turn makes them toys as well. They may be from different markets but they're still consoles. According to this man's logic every console before the Wii was a toy as well which is something I just can't agree on.

He didn't say that. He said every console before the WII (itself included) is a toy compared to the ps3. But i would discount the psp because it is a portable system, whereas the Wii is mostly not.

I just can't believe you guys reply to or even post this crap.

O, wait. Now I'm one of you guys. Let me rephrase:

I just can't believe Wii reply to or even post this crap.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

I wonder... why does everybody who is rarely or never even associated with the Wii in terms of content... always have a comment about it or Nintendo?

I mean, if the console does not concern you...or you don't even make games for it, why even mention it?

And yet, we  always get an earful of what the Wii is doing wrong or what its limitations are. I don't understand it.

You refuse to make Wii games; you complain about Nintendo not working hard enough; you belittle the console; you intentionally release subpar games to abuse and destroy the market; you spend the least money on it and still make profit. What more can they possibly do to prove they hate it?

I'm really surprised no one has attacked Reggie Fils-Aime at an E3 like the hip-Hop Awards already... :P

If you think Cage hates it from this article, you misread him. He didn't say anywhere that he didn't like the system, or that it's bad by any means. He's just saying it isn't in the same league with something like the PS3, which it isn't.

"a toy, a funny boardgame like the Wii, and a real"... well a real multimedia center with an extremely strong videogame experence."

It is very easy to take offense to this clearly. "Toy". "Funny". I would understand if people called all the consoles a toy, but they don't. It is always exclusively the Wii they are talking about. When you see how they have managed working on the console, "toy" takes on an inferior connotation. And "real"...real what?

And why is the Wii not in the same league as the PS3? Is it due to graphics and Blu-Ray? Those are the only two differences between the consoles I can truly come up with.

I never explicitly stated Cage hates it, but I'm curious as to why he even mentions the console. I didn't even speak of him directly, but all the recent Wii comment makers in general...

Wow I've lost a some respect for David Cage today.

Wii is a lot of things....even I am disappointed with it

But it aint a "toy" or a "funny board game".

Pretty much this.  And doubly agree with the disappointed bit.

Again I am reminded of comical Ali. That the extremely strong video game experience of the PS3 looks to be the worst performing Sony home console ever while the Wii boardgame is Nintendos best performing home console is astonishing. Obviously this means consumers are a bunch of sheep who don't know how to pick the best product for themselves, they are only blindly buying into the hype (however, consumers only turned to sheep in 2006 as the PS2 deserves every single sale it got).
