I have conundrum.  I rated Phantom Menace because it's just awful but then I started thinking about Attack of the Clones and remembered that it's actually worse than Phantom Menace!  Can I actually rate a movie 0/10?  I hope so because that's my only option since Attack of the Clones is worse than my already rated 1/10 movie.

As for reasons, I think I would just list this, one of the single worst scenes in all of cinema:

0/10

I will grant you that that scene is pretty much the epitome of bad writing, directing and acting, but it is only half a minute long. Is it really fair to judge a two-hour movie based on one (terrible) scene?

You're entitled to your opinion, of course.

But 0/10? Really?

All of the battles? The clone army advancing to fight the droids? Yoda fighting Dooku? Obi-Wan fighting Jango Fett? Mace Windu?

Surely, even if this doesn't redeem the movie, it does keep it from being a total catastrophe in the eyes of even the harshest critic, surely?

Same message to Twesterm, except that he didn't pretend to justify it.

You start talking about battles and we're going to start talking about Hoth or the Death Star Trench.

Nobody wants that.

Obviously, nothing on Hoth or the Death Star Trench, but they're from the original trilogy, all of which are brilliant movies with fantastic writing, engaging plots, brilliant acting, and epic battles (despite being designed with 1970s technology).

I'm not saying Geonosis is anywhere near the AT-ATs on Hoth, or Luke destroying the Death Star, or even the final battle on Endor, but it was a good fight scene, and I would put Yoda vs. Dooku as the second best lightsaber battle in the prequels (After, of course, Anakin vs. Obi-Wan).

Eh, I disagree on both those points, but that's for another discussion.

Regardless. No, fights cannot redeem a movie. Not even a little. Not unless they're well and truly fantastic.

No better place to discuss it than here.

Which would you say are the best prequel lightsaber battles, then?

It's a prequel the plot makes no sense,no main charter, the rormace bettween anakin and padme is painful.

It all most as painful as episode 1 but it's a bit better.

That fight was really pointess. The point of that figth was that obiwan crippes anakin. It did not have to be that long of a fight and been in those conditions. It could have last 35 seconds and accoplished more than the orignal fight did.

The basis of that video is that Star Wars is not realistic?

Well, no shit. It's set in a faraway galaxy with laser swords and small green super-psychics, not to mention enormous moon-sized railguns.

The prequels stand up almost entirely on well-designed fight scenes with good cinematography. Yes, the fight scene could have been 35 seconds. It would also have sucked and not have been the best part of Episode 3.

But that's a discussion for the next thread.

Well that whole Naboo love sequence drags on for like an hour, so yeah.

The prequels just have too much shit going on and it's all emotionless.  Of course I geeked out when Yoda drew his lightsaber but after the initial fanboy-dom of yoday fighting wore off, it was just an overly elaborate fight scene that despite everything going on was boring.

And the clone army fighting the droids?  Whatever.  Worthless B-1's that fall apart when you look at them vs. worthless clones, both fighting for...fuck if I know.  I'm still not entirely sure why they decided to bring an entire army down there.  Again, lots of action but beyond that it's pretty empty.
