Hardware revisions is not the way to go, I don't think the typical Wii customer cares about that and colors have proven to be quite ineffective as well (at least the black one did little to nothing)).

Beuli2; have you seen this; http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=118733&page=1 ?

Seems that people are going to have to start deciding whether the library is too weak or very good.

Well, it did release in the summer with no price drops. I'm pretty sure the PS3 slim wouldn't have been as effective if it didn't have a 100$ price drop along with it. The Red Wii bundle is what Nintendo should have done when releasing the Black Wii. Red will probably be more appealing than black to the typical Wii consumer as well. If only Nintendo allowed us to transfer our games to another system, then the Black Wii might have increased hardware from existing Wii owners.

The Wii won't get an hardware revision because there's no way to carry on your wiiware and VC games to the new system.

Nintendo themselves can mod the wii so we can transfer the games via SD Card or internet. It shouldn't be that hard for them if they modded the Wii to do the reverse.

Call me weird, but I could see a significant hardware revision helping. No, HD is not needed, but perhaps more internal storage space, and the ability to run stuff directly from the SD card could help both system sales and the online store sales. Slimming it down would also be nice, but that may have to come at the cost of GC support...

You already can run stuff directly off the SD card. You just have to have some free space on your internal storage. If you mean treating the SD card just like the internal flash, that won't happen due to anti-piracy measures. Not that they couldn't make it work, but what they have now is just as good.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

That's why I singled out the black Wii, the red one is a really good bundle imo and might shift quite a bit of hardware this holiday season.

If they could make the smallest home console ever could be  a strong selling point. They should get rid of the gamecube controller/memory card ports,(they could sell an adaptor for the controller for games such brawl) and of the nand memory( would include an sd card in each conosle instead, like they seem they'll do with the 3ds). Also wiimote plus, a revisited wiisport compilation and hdmi.

I think the Wii already is the smallest home console. I guess they can make it smaller by making it look like a small desktop clock..... With leds that tell you the time and alarm functions. (Which might be cool looking if done right)

And I don't think they have to worry about gamecube controllers or SD card anymore. They can make this new Wii let players use the classic control instead for gamecube games and save the Gamcube card data, which is already really small, into SD cards or the internal drive. It probably won't be that hard to do all of this, too.

He said ever, the PS1 slim was considerably smaller.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

I would sell the one I have now and get a new one if it had an HDMI and upconverting chip in it.  I don't know how hard it is for them to re-render the polygons in HD, but that would be nice too.

I would really like it to look more presentable on my HDTV than it is.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

The problem is if you simply upscalling to HD you get 0 benefit for TVs that already do a good job upscalling (most quality HD TVs). My HDTV upscalling every signal it gets to 1080p, because it has 1080 vertical lines and it displays all of them all the time. The odds of Nintendo putting a better upscaller in their system than the one currently in your average TV is slim to none.

If they actually render the images in HD and transmit them via HDMI they gain advantages with drawling lines (less jaggies), but gain very little with the textures so people would still think it is ugly.

There is no magical way to make SD content (with SD quality textures) look significantly better. Any real life gains would be minimal to none.

Doing either method would only drive the cost of the Wii up, and would gain minimal (if any) additional consumers.

I'm expecting a Wii successor in Spring 11, so I don't think Nintendo is planning a revision.

If however Nintendo wants to hold off on a successor for a while I think we will see a redesign at E3 next year. I agree with what dunno001 was saying. I think the logical thing for Nintendo to do would be put in a hard drive/or a much large flash memory. Nintendo seems to legitimately want to improve their online store/functionality. The 3DS channel is looking much more streamlined that the DSi/Wii, and maybe a Wii revision could take advantage of a similar strategy.  I think with the harddrive maybe they could expand WiiWare's size limitations from 40mb to double or triple that. I think I read that Black Ops Wii and Conduit 2 supports patching, the extra storage space could help make patching more available for more games. Also more downloadable content like map packs for FPSs would be an option. I think this strategy would be most relevant in that it would just be another step to strengthen 3rd party relationships. I think just a change to the physical appearance of the console, and a new marketing campaign like Sony and Microsoft did with their revisions, and that should give the console a bump in sales for awhile.

I also think the red Wii bundle will help quite a bit this holiday, and Iwata said in the financial report that  new bundles would be an important strategy going forward, so I expect to see a few more instances of that type of thing.

its possible, but i doubt it.
