Xbox Kinect To Crush PlayStation Move?

IDC estimates Microsoft's hands-free control system could top Sony's rival offering in units sold by as much as 50%.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Article goes on to say Q4 Kinect projections are 2.5-3 million and Q4 Move projections are 2-2.25 million. They use the term "Playstation Move systems" which could mean camera + at least 1 Move controller, but it doesn't say precisely what they mean by "system". I hope that for (approximately) apples with apples comparison they do mean camera + at least one Move controller.

I guess either my expectations of Move were too low, or my expectations for Kinect are too high (which wil be the fault of the Kinect hype brigade here) but I think if Move does over 2 million systems and Kinect does about 3 million then that's a pretty good result for both, and given Move's existing user base from Q3 it will mean household install base come the new year will be fairly even.

A roughly even install base between Kinect and Move at the beginning of 2011 wasn't the expectation of most people, including me.

Still, there's always the chance that, despite what the article says, Kinect could become this holiday's Tickle Me Elmo and end up truly crushing Move by 2:1; a bit like what Android phones are doing to iPhone at the moment (yaaaay!).

Are people really gonna be surprised by this?  We know Kinect is going to do better out of the gate, at the very least.  There should be no surprise here, most intelligent people were expecting it.

if true what an hype failure for kinect

I dont know how it would end up "at the end" but kinect outselling move by so fews unit is really, I mean, REALLY, an average result considering the hype and the marketing campaign behind each products ..

depends if your counting how many people actually own one in there house. You could have 4 move controllers for one tv in the house and one kinect for one tv. so the real question again is how many people actully own move/kinect?

Cause I do see a lot of move bundles and eyepets. just no controllers. so to me extra people want to play not own.

My dad called me earlier and told me he saw a commercial about a Microsoft product where you don't have to use a controller or buttons...

It hit me like a brick...Kinect is getting through to people that have had no interest in videogames before because of controllers, and cumbersome controllers.

I just showed him the Dance Central video and he's just amazed, saying "now THAT i can play, we should get that".

Yea...it's working Microsoft.

Wow.. let me guess: You didn't read the IGN article at all? Hey genius: The article talks about "Americans will buy..."

How many Xbox360 and PS3s are there in America?  Is it really rocket science that 25mio users will buy more peripherals than 15 mio users?
