Forums - Sales - Rock Band 3? Flop? The death of a genre?

The thing I'm looking forward to is the midi integration. I only wish they built an interface where you could hook up any guitar rather than a crappy squier. Hopefully someone will figure out a mod that is cheap an easy.

If they do that i will surely buy it! I'll plug my electric guitar on and i believe that it will be fun to learn with the game

Rock Band Beatles and Green Day could and should have been DLC, same with all the shit Guitar Hero has been pumping out.

RB3 does have slightly more 'realistic' instruments (at a high cost) but people have just had enough of the genre for now.

The Beatles required major $$$$$$ so there was no way license it for DLC.

True, but that doesn't change anything.

In Europe RB3 is the 6th game of the series in a little over 2 years.

For those already declaring flop, 100k pre-orders in america isn't too bad. That's just the 360 version.

Warriors of Rock flopped. Activision went nuts creating hero games, we all know that. This is the 3rd iteration of Rock Band and the first in 2 years (beside track-packish games). Many features were added which people had been asking for, as well as adding the ability to play real instruments. This will be a million seller for sure, so how is it a flop?

A million doesn't mean squat. These games have been on steady decline and there is little doubt that this will launch lower than any of the previous games. Long term downward trends are called death spirals.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

RB1 (X360):

1 187,860 N/A 35,726 223,586 223,586

RB2 (X360):

1 328,438 N/A 19,364 347,802 347,802

Both ended up selling over 2 million copies. Notice the EMEAA sales went down and down. 5000 in the UK alone, in 2 days, isn't bad. With 100k pre-orders, I don't see how much worse this is than RB1 which was released at what is usually considered the height of the rhythm genre.

If you want to fool yourself into thinking that 5k in the UK is good, then there is really no point in arguing because most consider those numbers abysmal at best.

I'm happy it flopped.

Devs need to actually work their asses out instead of releasing the same shit year after year with minor improvements.

But they didn't just release the same shit as last year with minor improvements...

I can't understand the blind hate this genre gets, I mean yeah all the games pretty much play the same but so do so many other series.
In Rock Band I hit coloured notes in time with music (or in 3 can actually play the real notes), in Mario(and most platformers) I run right and jump, in COD (and most FPS games) I run around and shoot

As a fan of music games (well Rock band anyway) I can't understand the hate it gets I mean new tracks are like new levels in Mario or a new map in COD

I think some of the hate is because people feel they were charging full game price for what amounted to expansion packs.

Rock Band 2 wasn't even in the top 40 launch week in the UK week 1. UK first week means nothing. This game is more of a holiday game and more of a NA game.

If anything, since it debuted at #26, I think it's quite the success!!!

Well Beatles: Rock Band debuted at #4 All formats, and #8 on the 360.  (12/13 on Wii/PS3).  Also the market was bigger back in '07/'08 so a lower ranking doesn't mean lower sales.

The original Rock Band debuted at #5, and that was with just a 360 version.

As for RB2, I really don't know what MTV/Harmonix were thinking.  RB 360 was only 6 months old.  RB PS3/Wii were just two months old.  They've really mishandled the European market, but that doesn't make the poor RB3 performance any better.

Odds are it is going to perform worse than that Beatles "track pack" which already underperformed compared to the first two games.  Anyways, I expect RB3 to beat GH's first month in the US, but that isn't saying much.

Nobody who pre ordered the game?

My store called me to say the instruments are delayed (Guitar and drum) for atleast two weeks and the game will be available tomorow.

Btw the sales are not good but wasn't this released the 30th in UK?
