The Wii's low failure rate will mean that it'll probably never beat the PS2 :(

So I guess when the DS beats the PS2, it won't be a big deal due to any family with more than one kid having more than one DS?

I actually consider this to be the case, but I'm sure many here don't.

You mean IF the DS beats the PS2, VGChartz has the PS2 severely undertracked, the current difference in shipped units is still 12 million in favor of the PS2.

OT i guess this is the new excuse, 100 million ''users'' with people playing it once a year counted? Well sorry to say, but Wii sure doesn't sell alot of sotware for a ''userbase'' of 100 million in NA alone lol.

Did you guys miss my story on the front page?

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/82589/highlights-from-nintendos-corporate-briefing/

This is days old news and Gamasutra excluded tons of relevant graphs including:

- Top Games in the USA, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Japan for Jan-Sept 2010

- Million-Selling Game Totals on Wii

- NPD sales by manufacturer in the USA since 1996.

There is probably even more stuff that they missed too.

How much did the PS2 cost for its 5th holiday season, and how much did it sell that holiday season?  The Wii is blowing it away at a higher price, and it won't cost $200 forever.

The PS2 sold about 6.5 million from the end of October till the end of December in 2004(5th holiday season), and i think Wii will do about similair numbers this year.

However the PS2 didn't have the whole motion control advantage however(you can't really count eye-toy since it wasn't the main control sheme). So that made it possible to be in higher demand at a higher price point because it was more unique. Now even with competing products from Sony and Microsoft the Wii at $199 still has a price advantage, but sales are declining non the less. And i certainly don't hope you're thinking Wii might outsell PS2 eventainly because that's never going to happen, Wii is still only at about half the PS2 current total.

That with GTA San Andreas.

Yes so? PS2 did over 6m during the holidays a year later aswell, and the fact that Wii doesn't have such a strong software line-up this year will only ensure it won't ''blow away'' anything.

I was giving emphasis to the fact that PS2 had a major flagship title to justify its sales while the Wii doesn't have any title of such importance on its line up to drive sales, and yet it sells good.

PS2 had the Slim launch in 2004 in the west, and it cost $150 by that point in the USA, 50% lower than launch price. In an aligned launch, Wii is over a year ahead of PS2.
