Forums - Sales - wii dominance at a close?

The Wii hasn't been dominant for a while - being pedantic about the actual definition of the word.  I still expect it to sell the most worldwide for the holidays, and it's still a major force that can shift a tonne of software, but it hasn't been dominant for a while.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Just for the record, the Wii will lose its dominance when some of the HD consoles outsell it.

Even if it stops selling right now, PS3 or 360 will strugle to pull of 75M units sold. If they ever achieve that mark.

The Wii will end the generation about near the 110M. That's way above whats in reach for any HD console.

No, the Wii dominance is not at a close.

being the winner by less than 50% is kind of a weak definition of "domination".  I assume most mean 50% market share by the idea of "domination" and I agree that Wii will most likely not get to that point.  Otherwise domination is just an overstatement for winning.

When you have 1st, second and last place, which one dominates?

"Spain didn't win the last world cup, because they didn't score as much goals as the second and third losers..."  ?

That logic only works if it's required that one of the three is the dominant one.  If Spain won the last world cup by 1 point after a long game you wouldn't say they dominated.  Dominating isn't just winning.

Our notions are different then.

I wouldn't say I'm dominating something when I'm not in 1st place or somehow scoring above everything else.

yeah, that's why none of them are dominating.  I never said that the PS3 or 360 were dominating, and I don't really get how you can go to that conclusion when I said that Wii isn't dominant because it's not at 50% market share which neither the PS3 or 360 are so they aren't dominant either.  You can be the winner without being dominant, it's a matter of the difference between the winner and the other contendors and beating all contendors combined is what I think most people draw the line for dominant in a console generation.

I am getting sick of all these threads about the Wii is doomed, its dominance is over. People just need to respect that Nintendo won this gen and thats it now lets enjoy the games.

I think a lot of people are just basking in the glory of being able to point at the "NINTENDOMINATION!" crowd and smiling.

Childish? Yes. Uncalled for? Not really, its now as if a lot of people haven't been gloating for a long time over the Wii's decimation of the competitors.

Personally, I can't muster enough energy to care much about the sales any longer but I can certainly see how some users could, this site has been filled to the brim with know-it-all statements, outright ridicule, elitism, insane predictions that are now being shamed and stern index fingers shoving humble pie down a lot of throats. Things have really turned around lately and as it turns out, all sides are equally infantile and petty when things don't go their way.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Don't build the cross too high there dude. Sony fans have done that all last gen with PS2, and the generation before with PS1. Nintendo fans are just getting payback for all the "kiddie gamez lol" comments over a decade long. In childish ways "Sony started!" ;)

PS3 europe > Wii europe

UK 360 > UK Wii

The wii is threatened by the 360 by yearly US sales

are that day of wii > PS3 Wii> 360 over or soon coming to a close?

Don't know. We may want to wait until the Wii has been on sale for $99 for a couple of years before we claim that. Remember the PS2 (142 million). The Wii is still capable of that at a $99 price point. Especially if the recession goes away within the next 2-3yrs.

At this point, I don't see 360 or PS3 catching them, especially once the Wii gets to that magical $99 price.
