Forums - Nintendo - Ready at Dawn: "The Wii Novelty is wearing off"

I've had it with ungrateful 3rd parties on the Wii!!!  The Wii essentially funded most of Ubi, Capcom, EA, and Sega's HD games until they became a viable platform (well more on PS3 than 360 as the latter became viable after a year).  Third Parties are still doing this like in the case of Sonic Colours which will get a port to HD systems depending on how successful the Wii version of the game does!!!  IF that game sells well Sega plans to use profit gained from that game to invest an upgraded version of Colours for HD. http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=140295  So I'd rather use my $$$$ on Nintendo IP like DKC, Last Story, Xenoblade etc than 3rd party shit that don't appreciate/abuse the core gamers on the Wii!!!

Let's be honest here. The Wii is slowing down due to low third party support. As a generation's console leader it would certainly be selling more if a steady stream of good games came out for it. Nintendo software alone, its quality notwithstanding, can't carry it all the way to supremacy.

NIntendo's been carrying their consoles for the last 3 generations already!!! Compared to the crap 3rd party released on the N64, GCN, and Wii I'm glad to say and hope that their shit don't sell.  Nintendo is almost always a safe bet when buying a game; that's why I own their system and have only one of the two HD consoles (as they basically have the same games anyways).

Dear Ready at Dawn, your Okami port was great, but will you please shut up now. Thank you.

I think the worst "use Wii to fund HD projects" offenders are Ubisoft and Capcom.

Sega usually is a good player, they gave us The Conduit, Madworld, House of the Dead: Overkill, and are bringing Conduit 2 and Sonic Colors to us. Some games sold pretty good (Mario & Sonic) some others didn't but they keep releasing decent to good games for the console with effort behind them.

EA doesn't know what to do, they bet on the wrong horse, and the usual Nintendo player doesn't buy a lot of simulation sport games, they made some tries but not with the kind of games that people were expecting and the "release another version every year" didn't worked either, cause the Wii user only want one boom blox to play with their friends, or one Fifa edition to use when some friends come by, or one complete version of Tiger Woods. They never really tried, and could not "use Wii to fund HD projects".

True.Suprise, anyone?

Unfortunately, many game developers are hardcore gamers and therefore have the mentality of hardcore gamers. They find making "Wii games" as degrading and unrewarding. They are more interested in cool technology than selling to a mass market.

Also, I call bullsh*t where they say their Okami port was a "passion project". Imagine you are a developer in the industry. Would making a port of an niche PS2 game be a "passion project" for you? Capcom went to Ready at Dawn and told them to make the port. Ready at Dawn obliged so they could get back to making God of War games.

Maybe third parties would be happier with Wii if they actually tried to make a good game. The only good third party games on the system are last gen ports, dumbed down ports, or niche games.

3rd parties 2006 - the Wii will never take off, so why should we develop for it?

3rd parties 2007 - the Wii is successful so far, but the Wii is just a fad, so why should we develop for it?

3rd parties 2008 - the Wii is aparently not such a fad if it's still selling, but the Wii is not strong enough, so why should we develop for it?

3rd parties 2009 - the Wii actually can output some impressive games if one puts some effort, but core games do not sell  on the Wii, so why should we develop for it?

3rd parties 2010 - Some core games probably did turn a nice profit, but we'll ignore them and say that only Nintendo games sell anything, and anyway the Wii novelty is wearing off, so why should we develop for it?

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

Guess what, The HD graphics novelty have worn off too...

Shouldn't you copy/paste for 2011 the same thing?

Above: still the best game of the year.
