I just got to thinking about the Pokemon series. I thought how great it will be to download all my favorite Pokemon games from the GB,GBC and GBA. Thats when I realized something, Nintendo has updated some classics on VC like Pokemon Snap for example where you could save your pics to the Wii and then alter them in Photo Channel.

I began thinking maybe the next Pokemon game will be backwards compatable with all of the Pokemon games to date. Think about it, being able to trade Pokemon from that game with Pokemon Blue and Red, or Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire. Or any of Nintendo's other handheld Pokemon titles.

It would make sense since we know it'll be backwards compatable with Black & White and Diamond & Pearl. Why not make it backwards compatable with all the former Pokemon titles. Finally you could actually catch and collect them all. Not to mention the feature would prompt millions of gamers to purchase the classics via virtual console.

Can you imagine how many millions of copies people would download so they could collect them all? I myself would buy almost all of them dying to collect them all. It would push the VC over the top and push millions of copies. It could potentially ship like 4-5 million per version. Meaning the potential of 45-million copies not including Fire Red and Leaf Green which some would pick up just for the better visuals.

The sales potential would be amazing not to mention as a gamer I would be in Pokemon heaven. Heck it might even be enough to bring Pokemon back to the late 90's popularity.

What do you think would you die for backwards compatability? Do you think Nintendo has this in mind? Would it push VC sales into the tens of millions? Or do you think gamers wouldn't be for it?

I thought pokemon has always been backward compatible? Even cross console gen with special adapter.

Nope not to my knowledge. Red/Blue were backwards compatable with Gold Silver, but Ruby Sapphire weren't backwards compatable with Gold Silver to my knowledge. Then Leaf Green Fire Red came out and were cross compatable with Ruby/Sapphire. But then when the DS came out I believe Diamond/Pearl were backwards compatable with Ruby/Sapphire, and Leaf Green Fire Red. Now with Heart Gold Soul Silver you can trade amongst all versions on the DS and GBA. Too my knowledge.

But I tried trading and it was a pain to try and track down all the new remakes and they aren't all that compatable. But if the next Pokemon game was universally compatable with all the classics it would dawn a new era of Pokemon!

Nope they aren't all compatable. Some are compatable with some others but they are not universally compatable!

I think having to beaqt pkm red, silver, ruby and what else more all over again isn't what gamers will want.

I want it to be a unique game from the start up. Not compatible with any previous game.

As soon as I got to PAL park, I exploited the hell out of my Ruby/Leaf Green games and transfered basically any pokemon of worth over

1 of the biggest draw is the ability to transfer your fav pokemon to newer game.

What you're asking for is a pokemon clone that's incompatible with existing pokemon games.

No, what I'm asking is for a reboot for the series.

I'm sick of having a pokedex with  349832 pokemons, out of those 14234 look like shit, 2342 are pratically clones and 288 are only "caught" through events.

I want the freshness that blue and red brought to gaming industry. And its not by adding more and more pokemons each iteration.

You can catch all the Pokemon if you own both Gold and Silver DS with only a few missing; but that's where D/P come in. Problem solved.
