Which Nintendo title will sell the most this holiday?

Donkey Kong Country: Returns 74 64.35%

Kirby:EpicYarn 1 0.87%

WiiParty 39 33.91%

PokePark:Pikachu's Adventure 1 0.87%

Total:115

Donkey Kong >> Wii Party >>>>>>>>>>>> Kirby >>>>>>>>>>>> PokePark

But Wii Party will sell for several years and end up outselling the rest.

I have voted for Wii Party although I hope it is going to be DKCR.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Wii Party is my choice.

Wider appeal and Donkey Kong is not that popular as a series.

Donkey Kong is probubly Nintendo's third most well known franchise, behind only Mario and Pokemon. DK was one of Nintendo's first arcade games and the baby boomer generation Wii is focused on grew up playing it. Also the DKC franchise sold better then most of Nintendo's other franchises in the 90's.

Considering that the franchise hasn't produced by the standards of the traditional market a 'proper' game for a number of years, I'm not sure where you're coming from. Mario has instant brand awareness as a result of a steady stream of megahits and Pokemon has all kinds of merchandise, anime and outside-games recognition behind it, and the last four years have shown that if you slap Wii into the title of anything then people will buy it without having previously been interested or aware of it at all. Donkey Kong has no such prescence in the public conciousness, and likely won't pull in nearly the same sorts of numbers.

When Mario went 3D, his sales dipped, and even today those games can't reach 10M; but once a new 2D Mario cames out, 20M seller.  There are people who remember the old DKC games, and are waiting for Donkey Kong to go back to those glory days, and have avoided the recent games.

Mario hasn't had a proper game since 1992. So what?

Above: still the best game of the year.

DKC:R will do the most this holiday. Wii Party will do more over the lifespan of the Wii.

Agreed!

I don't know where you're going with that statement.

Anyway, the typical gift buyer will immediately trust Wii Party because it's called Wii and games that have been called that have been fun in the past. The might recognise DK from Mario Kart, but he wasn't the star so they might not immediately see DKCR as a garunteed good purchase, and since Donkey Kong hasn't been in a high-profile release in so long, the franchise can't rely on brand loyalty amongst the newer segment of the market that makes up so much of the Wii's install base.

Donkey Kong missed a single generation without a big hit. You obviously didn't grow up in the late 80's early 90's. Donkey Kong was huge only superceded by Mario. The reputation was created and millions upon millions bought DK games and then with DKC millions more bought the games. Even Donkey Kong 64 sold phenominally.

As Veder said with NSMB:W it proved that alot of the old esttablished fanbase have just been waiting to see a game come out that appeals to their classical tastes.

I expect to see around 5-million in life time sales in line with the first DK64 did. I mean many of these casual gamers today grew up with Donkey Kong as kids. As I said Nintendo's target user base is soccer moms , dad's and grandparents. Alot of this new user base grew up with Donkey Kong.

Even during the GameCube Donkey Konga managed to break the million mark, Jungle Beat viewed as a failure by Nintendo broke 800,000.

Beuli2 is sort of right too. Mario hasn't had a mainstream side scroller (Not including NSMB:W) in what two generations. Yet those who grew up with Mario flocked to the Wii and purchased NSMB:W.

I think DK will definatly rule the charts this holiday season. Heck even Kirby who missed out last generation is pulling in good numbers!
