Forums - Sony - Are you truly a Gran Turismo fan? (a rant, sorry)

bugrimmar said:

Oh, i'm only comparing myself against those who suddenly "canceled preorders". i'm not trying to compare myself to anyone who "didn't" do that. i don't understand why you're coming off all defensive here. well whatever your reasons are, if you aren't a true fan, you wouldn't understand.

my priorities are fine, thanks. if you also understand the blood and sweat put into games, then you're welcome to create your own rant or rave, whatever you want. i'm merely focusing my attention on a specific group of people who are obviously "fake fans". i'm obviously not trying to demean your fandom by showing off mine. i'm only trying to demean the fandom of "fake fans". if you're not a "fake fan", you shouldn't be attacking me.

anyway, i don't need to explain my priorities to you. you aren't my father, obviously. i appreciate the honesty, but sorry, this is just the way it is. i didn't mention any names, so there's no need to feel angry unless it hits you right at that spot. i'm dropping that subject now.

edit: oh and if people want to cancel their preorders, that's fine and dandy. i don't mind. i understand that the delay sucks and there are other great games out there. but if people want to do that, they shouldn't be calling themselves fans. that's all.

You have completely missed my point, and instead you continued to rant about "fake fans."

I'm not talking about the ethics of fandom right now, so you could say I'm going off-topic. If you're offended about someone being a fake fan, then you do need to straighten your priorities.

You're not angry because they're just throwing away someone's efforts, but because you're upset you're being compared to them. This forum isn't a place for you to vent about your pride getting hurt.

Yeah, and if that same concert was announced in 2006 would you honestly still be stoked if in 2010 it was still being pushed back?

well, what did you lose?

did you pay for the development of the concert? have you spent any money yet? the concert is still coming right? you're a fan of the singer right? is the concert gonna be more expensive? is it going to be available in less areas?

no. as gamers, we lose nothing. it's still coming.

but then again, it's fine to cancel. i understand that people are sick of delays. cancel if you must. i just don't like it when they call themselves fans. fans don't spit on their so-called idols just because of a delay.

Bon Jovi came here when I wasn't alive yet. I became a fan 15 years ago. I've been waiting for him to come back here for 15 years. If he does come back, I'm gonna buy a ticket for sure. Why is a few weeks extra so bad?

it's a place to talk about games, is it not? i'm talking about games. i'm on topic. you're talking about priorities. you're off topic alright. but whatever you want, it is what it is. my rant is my rant. if you want to talk priorities of life, we can discuss that another time.

meanwhile, i'm only concerned with fandom and gran turismo. i'm talking about it freely, within the rules of course. so... yeah. let's close that discussion.

I agree a lot with what the OP says, i mean yes its been a long wait, but its a mistake Sony and Polyphony wont make again, they're trying their best, and the've explained the cause of the delay. when it comes down to it i think we're all allowed to be dissappointed when stuff like this happens, but the developers really do care for the fans or they wouldnt be going to such lengths in the first place. and at the end of the day they will learn from their mistakes and hopefully not repeat them in the future.

@bugrimmar

I agree with everything  to you said 100%. Many people call themselves fans of someone or something without being real fans. I totally see your point and I don't think that you're trying to compare yourself with the rest of the gamers. Having said that, you seem a bit surprised and I really don't get that. I mean it's the same with actors, singers, tv -shows etc.

No denying delays are annoying but I'd rather have them than have a bug ridden game...yes Fallout NV I'm looking at you...though with that said...expect to see at least one bug in GT5 :D

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I'm not a GT fan.

But I was hyped in the beginning with all the promises. Delays killed the hype for me.

Once again, I'm not a fan in the first place, but I can understand that even fans can be disappointed.
Wouldn't you be dissappointed if you're Bon Jovi concert was delayed during 2 years? not at all?

They will know Helgan belongs to Helghasts

I'm as big a fan as they come, the delays vex me but I'll still buy, and hopefully love, the game. There is nothing to stop me from getting this game, I would easily miss out on all games I've played the last two years to get this one title, no problem!

Your post reeks of arrogance, and you don't seem to acknowledge the fact people are genuinely annoyed by the delays.

arrogance = yes. i apologize but that was my exact intention.

everyone is annoyed by the delay. but does a "real fan" cancel his order just because of a delay? will you not go to the concert anymore just because it was delayed?

the answer to that is, sure you're annoyed, sure you're gonna cancel your order, and that's fine.. just don't call yourself a "real fan". i'm personally offended when i see all that in the same sentence.

Then you need to get your priorities straight.

it's not just GT, friend. being a fan of something is a special thing.

people work hard on these things. game developers spend countless hours trying to make games that are so good such that people turn into "fans". singers, movie starts, artists, refine their craft through so much hard work so that people will like them more.

i just hate it when people claim to be "fans" and just jump off at the first sign of trouble. i'm a fan of a lot of things. i treat that as not just some passing fancy or fling. i appreciate their hard work and i don't like seeing all that being spit on by a bunch of people who can't appreciate all their work.

Once again, get your priorities straight.

You act as if you're the only one who appreciates the work that develops put into their game.

You make yourself out to be this super-fan who truly understands the blood and sweat and put into games, and when compared to people who you think are worthless peons for their casual care of the games made, your pride is hurt.

Your fandom is no more important than anyone else's, so step off your pedestal and come back down to earth.

You do know fan doesn't equal willing to put up with any and all bullshit that comes there way right?

If you do that, your not a fan, your obssessed to an unhealthy degree.

People can very much be fans and then something negative happens... like multiple delays and people say "That's enough."

Were the people who stopped liking Michael Vick as a football player because he tortured dogs "Not really a fan."

When a second or third game turns out to suck, are the people that don't buy those "not really a fan."

The many people who would of bought Duke Nukem Forever, but won't because it's been 12 years...

are they suddenly not Duke Nukem fans?

You aren't a fan, your acting obssessed... you come off vaguely like the "Leave Britney Alone" guy.

Fandom isn't undying love and unquestioning loyalty.  It's just simply liking something.

Hell you can be a fan of a game and never buy it.   My friend who doesn't have a PS3 is a fan of Valkria Chronicles, because he played it at my house.
