Lets ignore the fact the DS has a userbase nearly 100 million higher than 360!

As of October the 9th.

Xbox worldwide = 43.8M

DS in Japan = 31.4M

And Reach has done more in America than Pokemon has in Japan, with a 6 million userbase handicap.

Pokemon is big in Japan, that's great, it IS a sales monster, comparing it to Reach is stupid though. Japan is Pokemons strongest region when it comes to attach rate, I imagin it performs similarly or worse to Reach in EMEAA and NA in terms of userbase.

Fair enough. I overlooked the numbers of Halo in NA.

The sales are quite insane. For a comparison, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl sold 2.6 million in its first 4 weeks. Diamond/Pearl ended up selling 6 million in Japan, and become the 5th best selling game ever there.

Black/White should end somewhere around there too. That will make the top 7 best-selling games in Japan all either Pokemon or Mario. It will also make the DS have 6 of the top 10 best selling games there.

Someone brought up a question about the biggest franchises. Pokemon is nowhere near Mario. But again, nothing is anywhere near Pokemon either. Unless you count the Wii series. Don't shoot me if I forgot anything.

1. Mario - 416.5 million

2. Pokemon - 194 million

3. Grand Theft Auto - 87 million

4. Final Fantasy - 84 million

5. Sonic - 75 million

6. Call of Duty - 68 million

Zelda - 60 million

It's a short list, because I'm really just illustrating a point with the top 3.

This list is soooo wrong lmao

How, exactly?

That list is correct according to this site though as someone pointed out missing the sims

Pokemon should break the 194 million mark soon leaving it to 210m or something. Nintendo has one of two best selling franchises ever in the world. It's amazing how much software mario has sold in it's lifetime. wow!

How much Mario has sold this generation is really the most impressive about it. For the first 4 generations Mario was around, it sold around 260 million. So far this generation, it has sold 150 million. I'm not sure about which franchise (apart from the Wii series, which is at 150 million as well) holds the record for "second most sales within one generation", but I think that belongs to Call of Duty with a touch under 60 million for the generation.

Oh, and Rath, I see that I missed The Sims. Well spotted.

I really happy to see B/W doing really well, I just hope that the 3DS doesn't harm their Western sales that much

You're quoting Wikipedia. Wikipedia links to an article saying 240 million. That article has no source for the 240 million number.

I'm quoting VGChartz, the site we're on.  A site that has some quite damn good chaps compiling the data for older games, and some great tracking for current sales.

I think I'll trust VGChartz.

The Mario source isn't reliable. I apologize for that. But the rest are from reliable sources.

The order of the list I posted is accurate (replace FIFA with GTA).

I'm fairly sure that Tetris number includes digital Downloads. The majority of the numbers we have don't, so thus the numbers become impossible to compare with the rest of our numbers.

The GTA numbers are from 2008, before the launch of GTA IV. They're ridiculously outdated. GTA has shipped somewhere around 20 million more copies since then.

The Sonic numbers link to an unofficial site, and not to any specific URL. There's no date on how old it is, and no way to know if the numbers were ever correct.

The numbers are also shipped, rather than sold, which causes a tad of an issue comparing it to this site.

You definitely do have a point with Need for Speed and The Sims, though.
