Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart Wii: 23 Million and counting

It's a classic that came out from a classic...

I think it's a no-brainer than MKWii will pass 25 million in sales. It's sold over 2 million this year and we're heading into the holiday season, and it's still selling nearly 40,000 a week. It'll break the 25 million barrier for sure. In addition I'd like to say that I actually really detested MK:DD. I don't know why, because I've loved every other game in the series, but man I didn't like that game. I would also like to say that I think Mario Galaxy could top 10 million if it's included in a "Player's Choice" line which, at this point, Nintendo would be foolish not to introduce; the Wii software market is starting to contract, so what better way to juice sales than by slashing price on some key titles? Galaxy, Smash, Zelda:TP, MK, etc, etc.

Bah!

I wonder how much money Nintendo has made from this game? Most likely more than a Billion dollars.

Nintendo's best WIi game evah.

It's just that simple.

Way more than any of the Halo games, that are known for breaking day one records at every launch but then the overall profit doesn't get known by the public.

I wish someone could do "the profit" charts. I'm sick of people who yell about Halo/GTA/Dragon Quest 1st day record, like it means something compared to these games that sell way beyond 20 million units.

This game appears to everyone, men, women, couples, die hard hardcore gamers, expanded audience, etc.. This is why it is beast.

If a game sells over 5 Million it always appeals to EVERYBODY. Haven't you noticed how MW2 and the Halo Series are considered casual these days?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I played this game for over 200 hours and I'm happy the series' sales have bounced back after the disappointing performance last generation

I somehow wouldn't classify Double Dash's 6.96 million sales as disappointing. That's more than every PS3 exclusive.

I was thinking more of Super Circuit:

Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA)
Nintendo
2.66 1.00 1.79 5.45

I think that considering the GBA's userbase and the sales of other 1st party GBA games that Super Circuit's performance was disapointing.
