oh and GW has it's own crowd... the one that hates paying monthly fees... so you could almost consider this 2 different genres... they do crossover, but they are still separate crowds.

So you're saying that GW2 and SW:TOR have different audiences because GW2 is cheaper? GW2 is looking to be far more revolutionary then TOR for the MMO genre, so I'd say the two are very much competing.

they are competing, but i'm arguing that a significant portion of the crowd will not even consider the other game based on the pricing plan.

A lot of GW2 players will get it because of the no monthly fees. A lot of  players will not consider it because to them if it's free it'll mean it sucks too much to charge. I hardly doubt most of the WoW players even made research on MMOs before going there, they have premade opinions.

I think GW2 has a lot of MMO players excited though, even ones who didn't like the original.

I agree, I in no way meant that it didn't. (I only played beta of the first and liked it... would have played that if not for wow).

Im one of those, I never played the original guild wars and never thought about playing it until guild wars 2 was announced but now I just want to wait for guild wars 2.  I cant believe that a game as promising and good looking as guild wars 2 is going to have no subscription fee, only the cost of the game itself.  For years I would defend subscription based mmo's based on the amount of maintenance and updates that needed to be implemented, I felt it was worth it.  If guild wars 2 comes out and is better than almost any other p2p mmo, I will never pay a sub fee for an mmo again.  The star wars mmo looks interesting and I absolutely love bioware, but guild wars 2 may never let me pursue that interest.

if this game fails with its budget it would probably be one of the greatest game failures, not just for an MMO

Well, those people are a part of the "pay monthly fees for MMOs"-crowd, so I don't see why GW2 shouldn't be able to attract the attention of those who don't want to play non-p2p MMOs. It's already doing that.

That's right, we already have GW2 to fight WoW! It'll be the rise of a new type of MMOs!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

This game is a guaranteed super failure. MMO's aren't very hot now and there's literally no hype for KOTOR online. After a few months its subs will be down at a few 100K. I agree with the blogger, the game simply looks shit.

That was a very interesting blog post. It's sad to hear what has become of the fantastic Mythic Entertainment who once upon a time gave me Dark Age of Camelot, the best MMO ever made.

so DAoC was the best ever, but the same team can only do something that "looks shit" with a franchise bound to gather a few 100ks on brand suport only?

In today's news, some guy somewhere says something mildly incendiary to a limited demographic. Yawn.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

What it will need to do is get single player RPG'ers interested. I'm interested in it precisely because its more story focused and has fully voiced muliplayer intereactive dialogue.

I couldn't care any less about normal mmos. I enjoyed a bit of wow, but the lack of any form of interactive narrative or dialogue system means I get bored pretty quickly. This mmo is in a completely different direction to most and if pulled off correctly will be awesome.
