Tupac wasn't the best lyriscist.  He wasn't the most gangster.  When he first appeared, I didn't notice him at all.  But when "Me Against the World" came out, my perspective of him changed.  "So Many Tears" became my anthem.  I was going through some things at the time and.....my every move was a calculated step--if you know what I mean.  And all of a sudden, I started listening to what he was saying.  The man was rapping about his pain, his family, and the state of black people.  This was at a time when everybody was rapping about drugs, cars, and things like that (and don't get me wrong, he had his share of songs like that, too).  But somehow, he was elevated to another level.

And when "All Eyes on Me" came out, it was over.  A double CD and everybody I know had this album.  The real albuy, too!  Not even a bootleg.  It would play in the barbershops I went to.  Cars were riding buy with it playing.  We'd make entire trips to Savannah and back and we'd listen to nothing but 2pac, the whole time.  It was the most complete album I'd heard at the time.

And then he died.  There was the whole "East Coast West Coast" thing and at the time, I was definitely more of a fan of the West Side.  Here we had this charismatic troublemaker who was in movies, on MTV, on CNN, and on the radio.  He was our urban hero.  And despite his trouble (including being accussed of rape), he showed the potential of being a black leader.  After listening to the comentary and videos on the movie "Ressurection", it's apparent that this was actually where he was headed.  The man was smart!!

So no.  He's not the best rapper of all time but that's not what makes him the best rapper of all time (doesn't make sense, does it?).  He's the best because if you had to take one person, one rapper, and show one person what rap was, you use Tupac.  He could flow, he could make you laugh, he could make you cry, he could make you think, he could make you mad, he could make you feel invincible, and he could make you FEEL.  And nobody before him and nobody since has done it better.

There are a few rappers that heavily influence those that followed.  The originators, if you will.  I could name you a list of people that fall into this class.  But after Tupac, even when he was alive--Every rapper wants to be Tupac.

There are other good rappers beside 50 Cent and Eminem?

I have never listened to Tupac. He has been dead since like the mid 1990s. 

50 Cent is the greatest rapper of all time. That is a simple fact, wait that is just my opinion. LMAO!

Notorious B.I.G. shot dead at 24. Tupac dead at 25. Young and dead makes musicians/singers more famous by default. There music is ordinary but they are famous because they were  killed by rival gang bangers. 

Jimi Hendrix/Jim Morison and Kurt Kobain all dead at 27. Without being dead they would of just been another singer and not worth the time of day. Nirvana and The Doors are ordinary but their mysterious deaths make them famous. 

I'm not a fan of rap.  I don't care for Hendrix or the Doors and I like a few songs by Nirvana.  But that doesn't change how influential every one of the names that you mentioned were in their time, when they were ALIVE.

Those are just a few and they would not have been as famouse as they were/are if they "would have been just another singer." 

In music (and film), it's hard to be rememered and loved by so many when your influence is snatched from the world before its time, when all you were before you died was mediocre at best.
