Forums - Sony - Rumor:The End of the Current PSP Has Been Confirmed Officially?

Sony developers are indicating the end of the distribution of development kits for the PSP. It looks like the PSP2 console rumor news is real.

Here is the message from a Spanish distribution, translated from Spanish to English:
PSP development and test units are being discontinued

SCEE will no longer be selling the psp development tool (dtp-t2000a) or testing tool (dtp-h2500a) past November, 15th. Please order in advance if you require these development units.

We will advise you when a new model becomes available.

It is not surprising that the second generation PSP will make it's appearance in 2011, since the Nintendo 3DS will be available in March. There are currently rumours about this all over the internet, but we will need to wait for Sony to officially announce it. The PSP2 is most likely not coming out before 2011.

I think it needs no confirmation it is pretty much dead already outside Japan.

I don't believe this rumor, Sony will keep selling the PSP, they can probably drop the PSP3000 by U$50 and the GO by U$75 and still make money on the machine.

So true 80-90k a week is so = dead

and people have missed the point of this news so bad already it seems. It means that they won't push 'development' for the older model any longer after November which makes perfect sense if they are already sending out PSP2 kits.

From the sound of it GDC reveal is likely imo. Can't wait :D But till then the line up will keep me happy. Price cut for this holiday season would have made great sense but most likely we will see one early next year

It sold over 50000 units this week outside of Japan.

It's not yet dead, and it hasn't had a pricecut for years. If it gets a cut, that 50000 units a week outside of Japan would probably turn to 90/100k units outside of Japan.

If it has got a cut this time last year, it would probably be outselling the Wii right now...

it seems to make sense to me

PSP did well, 50 million units is good for a new hand-held in a market dominated by Nintendo

i would get a PSP2

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong
