Forums - Nintendo - Legitimate Wii software issue...

Ok after that Joke thread about the Blue light I decided I'd air my frustration with the Wii since it seems this issue really hasn't been talked about a lot except on an early Wii vid on IGN.

The issue is the Black Hole...

Let me describe it: After booting the Wii and clicking on an app icon on the Wii menu, the Wii goes to black and sits there for however long it wants to take.  Sometimes up to 6 minutes it will sit at the black screen doing nothing.  Eventually it will load the app and you'll need to resync your controllers.  I have a lot of Save games and VC games on my Wii, plus I have every free Wiiware app on it.  My Wii has 113 free blocks.  Why hasn't Nintendo fixed this issue?

If I turn on my Wii everyday I don't get this problem.  Once the Wii has been turned off for more then a day, this issue pops up.

Yeah... It's been doing that since the new Wii version update. I guess they will fix this with their next one, but it's been bothering me as well, a bit.

I just wait patiently though. :)

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Doesn't affect mine...weird.

Edit...I don't think mine has been off for more than a day.  Guess I wouldn't know.

It's been happening to me since about March... I believe it's a bug that's been outstanding since Launch. IGN talked about it last year as one of their major annoyances with the Wii. I believe it's caused by a faulty WiiConnect24. It seems like Nintendo has a bug with the way Wiiconnect24 downloads it's updates. Instead of doing the updates when the system is off like it's supposed to, it decides to do the updates after you've turned your Wii on and loaded an app. I have an external 10/100 USB dongle, I can monitor my network activity while waiting for the Wii to load and notice it always connects to the net several times before the app finally loads.

The biggest issue I've had is it did this to me the one night I had company over...  which looked really bad.  I had to explain the issue when someone noticed something wasn't quite right.  Ugh...

If it's been bothering you since March why didn't you call Nintendo?

Because it's an ongoing issue which other's have talked about (IGN guys specifically). I'll call them right now though and see what they have to say.

Peer from IGN wrote a blog about it:

Hm, I actually haven't had mine do that. The only issue I have heard of, though never seen is a supposed over heating of the GPU causing some funny artifacting.

Do you notice anything during game play? or is this the only time it does it?

I had something somwhat similar happen to me a few days ago. I went into the news channel and the screen was black for an unusually long amount of time when it normally just boots right up. It happened again when I went into the shopping channel for just a bit longer, and then one more time when I tried to play Sonic Adventure 2. But that's the first and only time its ever done that on me.

Alright, I just called Nintendo. They don't have this issue logged and have asked that anyone else with this issue please call them and have it logged so that they know it's not just a random incident. Can you guys please call them so that we can get a fix for the problem?

Here's their phone number: 1-800-255-3700

Thanks!
