Forums - General - Evolution in action (following the progress of 44,000 generations)

But what about the underwater cities and pyramids, the overwhelming evidence that dinosaurs walked with men and genius theories like the Hovind theory, you can't just scrap intellectual gold like that I tell you!

PS: Evolution is not only a lie according to some, it is also a religion (yes, this is actually how some people see it) and everyone who believes in it have closed minds, apparently.

The only morons that think this are the ones that don't believe evolution happens despite the fact that it has been proven.  It's a way to try and put evolution on the same footing with religion (i.e. you "believe" that, I "believe" this).  The fact that one can be proven and the other is a fairy tale that cannot be proven is irrelevant apparently.

highwaystar101 - There is absolutely no evidence like you say, but hey, you will continue to believe it anyway because you just refuse to believe that there is someone we will have to answer to.  One day your knees will bow and I hope before then that your eyes are opened my friend.

I hope you open your eyes to be honest. To say there is no evidence is grossly incorrect, as it is abundant. Did you even Google the case I gave you? That right there is evidence. But I guess you didn't.

And to me you seem far more concerned with following your religion, as opposed to looking around you and seeing the wonders of nature and making them compatible with your faith. Hundreds of millions of theists and non-theists do this every day.

If you want the evidence I'll be happy to provide you with it. But evolution is a big subject, you'll have to be more specific. What evidence do you want to see? I'll be happy to go through it with you.

In the mean time I can give you a link that will give an overview of evolution.

44,000 generations and not even a doubling of growth rate. Impressive.

You can't create energy out of thin air.  There is a limited amount of energy content within glucose.  You can't magically make it have more energy than it does.  You can only consume it more efficiently, and bacteria are already pretty damn efficient.

People seem to think that progression should just be a constant thing.  They seem incapable of understanding there are physical limits on what can be accomplished.  The CAFE standards for cars are getting to be that way as well.  It takes x amount of energy to move a car of weight y a distance z.  There's no getting around that.  All the improvements in the last few years are due to increases in engine efficiency (which has a limit, as well) and aerodynamics (which have limits too) and in spit of of the hundreds of pounds that have been added because of safety standards (which are really just becoming poor substitutes for correct driver training).  Not trying to go off track, here, but it illustrates the issues with thinking bacteria should be able to turn glucose into holy water given a long enough period of time in a manner that's much easier to relate to.  The concept of diminishing returns is something that most people sadly do not understand.

I'm only using your logic to try and rationalize my beliefs, as you do with yours.....

Ooohhh ecoli, damn my adrenaline is pumping! What's next plankton?

Ok, maybe not the most exotic organism but I thought it was pretty exiciting to see evolution actaully take place in an observed time frame! Unfortunately bacteria provide the only opportunities for these kind of studies.

Lol yeah I'm just being an asshole. I'm still waiting for humans to get gills so we can stay underwater forever (but of course still have our lungs.

Lol. It seems the more evidence that is placed right in front of you, the more you ignore it and the more stubborn you (creationists- I'm guessing that's what you believe) become. It's bizzare. It's like you think you can cover your eyes and ears and choose ignorance over evidence based reality.

It doesn't matter what religion you are, the evidence for evolution is massive and constantly growing. It's the founding principle of many different branches of science which have even gone on to produce useful products such as recombinant drugs for a range of harmful diseases. If it wasn't for our knowledge and understanding of evolution, many of our scientific advances would not have been possible.

You can believe in the bible if you want, but denying evolution is deluding yourself. I suggest you actually read up on evolution properly and try to keep an open mind when you do. The bible is not the answer to everything.

and yet it is still e. coli.  Write when it miraculously becomes something else.  That has and never will be proven.

Guess what, it wont. Know why? Because evolution actually makes sense and the supernatural never seems to show up "anymore". So yeah, things never have and never will miraculously change. They have been changing and will keep doing so through actual physical, biological means.

But yeah, I know that must be danm scary facing your own normality and transient being. But hey, you can always spin it around and say some other people are afraid of the control of a being they don't even think exists. W/e floats your boat :)

^^ There is not scientific evidence to prove evolution, nor has any been given in this forum.  heck the theory itself is not even based on the true definition of science because it has never been observed and there is no explanation for the existence of time and space, morals, conscience.  The Bible is the answer for everything, that is my premise, therefore nothing said is going to ever change that.  Your premise is that the Bible is wrong and man is the answer, and I am sure that nothing I say will change that, so this will be my last post in this forum.

So thousands of peer reviewed papers in Paleontology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics and the application of the theory in Biochemical Engineering and drug design and development doesn't constitute evidence? And this thread was created because it has just been observed.

In fact, much smaller scale studies have been carried out for years by a technique called directed evolution where a selection pressure is applied and all variants screened. We then select the useful ones for our specific task. This technique has been used in the development of many drugs. My colleague used this technique to enhance the development and processing of insulin for diabetics. Without the theory of evolution, which you seem to think has "no evidence" this wouldn't have been possible.

You seem to think religion and science are completely seperate. They're not.You can believe in religion whilst accepting the evidence and knowledge human beings have aquired. You simply have to keep an open mind and keep things in context.

You can find answers to certain questions in your life in the bible but there are a lot of things you won't find; curing disease for one thing. Saying the bible is the answer for everything is quite simply lazy and ignorant. This type of thinking would have resulted in humanity being stuck in the dark ages.

@kazadoom

Do you also believe that women should be 100% subservient to men, and if they aren't virgins before marriage, they should be killed? Or that eating pork is sin? Or getting tattoos are wrong? Playing football is wrong (playing with the skin of a pig is sin in the Bible)? Working on Sundays?

You 100% believe in the Bible, then you also 100% believe that all of those things are bad. No wonder you turn a blind eye to evolution. Playing football is sin? No way could evolution be possible!
