Forums - PC - 3D Will Bring on the Rebirth of PC Gaming !

Here is something about 3D Pc gaming setup you really can't understand until you set it up.

You need a quadcore CPU and GTX470 or  GTX460 SLI ... anything less and say good bye to 1080p resolution or say hello to medium or lower game settings or say good bye to 30 frames per second.

These cards make a lot of heat...so you will need a case which has lots of room, airflow. Your old dad's case won't do...

Then, these cards need a lot of power...so you will need to upgrade your 450 watt PSU to a 700 watt monster.

Gear: 3D Vision kit (200 bucks)

3D monitor ( $300)

And thats even before you get in to adding more ram, mobo that supports SLI...etc.

It gets pricey for a regular consumer no matter which way you cut it.

right now i dont care about 3d gaming to say the truth im happy with my xbox 360, when the next gen launches if its dd only (which is almost impossible) or ( i have a 3d tv and the consoles dont display 3d which is also highly unlikely) then i would move to pc gaming or will stop gamming. So no i dont think that 3d will push pc gaming besides pc gaming is currently excelling at restraunt city farmville/ world of warcraft stuff like that and some strategy games so it isnt bad as i heard alot of pc gamers like strategy games.

Ok, I thought it would be cheaper than that presently. Still, would be interesting to see where things stand price wise a year from now. From experience, there's a good chance that a year from now a mid-budget graphics card will achieve the same performace. Just so I understand - do you need 2 GTX470 or one? (is this one also SLI or is only the 460?)

If you want to go with a single video card these are the options:

GTX 285, GTX470, GTX295, GTX480...least to most powerful.

Don't bother getting a lesser card as it will only lead to frustration. Choppy frame rates, low res and detail...no one wants that.

If you want to do SLI setup, you can go with GTX260 SLI, GTX275 SLI and GTX460 SLI as well as SLI for the 4 cards I listed above...

And your point is?

Point: To create laughter for myself mainly but others as well. And I guess I'm supporting that the OT is kinda ridiculous when you have to spend quite a chunk of $ anyways. I mean only a PC gamer MIGHT (keyword: might) be all excited for a slight improvement in visuals and waste money on such things. For the most part console gamers don't care about 3D. If we cared about visually appealing things like that... you'd think we'd already be PC gamers.

Well, one part made me smile - everything you say is maybe true for many Wii owners, but HD console owners? Hardly caring about visual ly appealing things ??? And the difference will not be small (though since there is no console that will display it better, only the PC, some HD console owners will suddenly say that it's really not that much of a difference, where if it had been the Wii for example, they would have declared the difference as huge )

The Wii... HD consoles... huh?

So let me get this straight you think one of the reasons HD console gamers bought their HD console for the superior graphics it had against the Wii?

Maybe but it wasn't the primary reason, the primary reason is the library of games.... were talking about console gamers not PC gamers here... we don't care about visuals so much.

We just care about the games and although we don't think about it much because we've enjoyed this for so long... we also care about the convinience in console gaming.

I like gaming on PC too I have Total war games, Command and Conquer games, Fallout 1 and 2, and others (bought Fallout 3 for Xbox 360)...  but I don't have the latest games... HELL I can't even play Supreme Commander 1 and I bought that a year ago (I think)... a good waste of 10$ there (not really, someday when I buy a nice new PC I'll probably be able to play it... unless -_- my PC is then too advanced or not compatitible and then I would have to look for some help online, see the hassle?)... my PC sucks right now, I need more RAM and well everything else I imagine. It's a hassle I choose not to deal with... I play PC games because of the games not because of how good they CAN look. It's stupid to waste money on visuals... 3D is "kinda" (not really) the new thing and only PC fanatics are into such new fancy upgrades. The rest of us don't care about neat visuals and that's why we game on consoles... honest I wish I could play PC games because thier great but my PC and I can't keep up with the demand or hassle of upgrading and maintence. Also I HATE getting games digitally... I don't even buy DLC on xbox live anymore which Im sure quite a bunch of console gamers would have conflict with as we've always had a hard copy in our hands.

3D won't convert a console gamer into a PC gamer... I know because I'm [a bit] of a PC gamer and well..... I'm not interested, and if I'm not interested, how much more is a console gamer who doesn't apprecaite PC games like I do?

So what's next... LAWL you don't know what your talking about, you can build a gaming rig with 100$ that is 50x more powerful then your pathetic Xbox ... look at all your grammatical errors lololololol

^^^^

That gets old.

Anyways, your wrong... you were thinking console gamers would care about the nice 3D affect as much as a PC gamer might (keyword: might).

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

No, I was thinking HD console gamers will soon start caring about 3D (not the effect, but what it can do for gaming), and since I assumed many of them would be offended by the effect of 3d graphics on their games' resolutions on their HD consoles, I thought some would turn to PCs.

So, I wasn't sure the first time, but I think I get it now - "LAWL you don't know what your talking about, you can build a gaming rig with 100$ that is 50x more powerful then your pathetic Xbox ... look at all your grammatical errors lololololol" that's me, or at least what I represent?

What can 3D do for gaming besides make games look nicer and more immersive? (Something most console gamers don't care about unless it's PS3 vs 360 multiplates and brag on each other for being a "fanatic" of a console although some multiplats are actually so bad that it's legit to point it out)

That's a PC "fanatic" at his/her worst... I wrote it in hopes that you or anyone else would take it as a hint that it's a lame response and thought it was lol.

Well, after I get my 3DS come March, I'll be able to tell you if you are correct or not. My clear impression from what many developers said after they played around with the 3Ds is that the 3D will have actual gameplay implications, enhancing the game, but just a pretty face.

I've heard developers talk too... I really don't think they're talking about a huge leap in gaming... just slight improvements in gameplay as far as visuals go... like in MGS 3 Snake Eater... Ahh the camouflage  works better in 3D.

This isn't like when gaming went from 2D to "3D" (Duke Nukem II vs Duke Nukem 3D) as we now it today. I remember when that happened my jaw dropped and was super eager to try a game in 3D in those days... this isn't the same but w/e I suppose in the end there is a slight chance you could be right, very unlikely though.

I think perhaps with the 3DS gameplay could be enhanced with the 3D effect mixed with the camera they have. I'm just speculating here but the potential is there for innovative gameplay.
