Forums - PC - 3D Will Bring on the Rebirth of PC Gaming !

3D gaming is the latest buzz lately, and this buzz isn't going to subside as people actually start to play these games. The problem is that the present HD consoles, in order to display games in 3D, will display the games with a noticeable drop in fidelity. And in order to see the game in 3D, you need one of those expensive 3D TVs.

To the rescue comes... The PC!!!

New PCs have the horsepower to render 3D without loss

AND

3D capable screens for PC are much, much more affordable

I predict that more and more 3D enabled games will come to the PC as well, and more and more gamers will go back to the PC for such games, as this will be the affordable way (and in some ways, possibly the best way) to play games in 3D.

Well, until the price of entry becomes lower, you're probably not going to see it make much of a difference.

For 3D PC screens? I seem to recall quite affordable prices, though I need to look this up. From what I recall, since the screen size is smaller, it's in a completely different ball game than the big size 3D TVs.

I mean for a PC that will do good 3D graphics as well, not to mention the glasses. If you're not going for a highend PC, then the graphics will be compromised which kind of ruins your point.

the 3ds will take all of the hype on 3d, and its already confirmed that one of the home consoles next gen will have 3d, so no it wont bring the rebirth of pc gaming.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

I'm not so certain you need a high end PC for that (though I am certain you need a fairly new one). But even if you are right, you do know that on PCs, today's high end is in less than a year the low end. So give it less than a year and all PCs wil lbe able to do this with a reasonable graphics card.

No! Technology doesn't resolve problems, good games do.

Above: still the best game of the year.

I don't think its going to rejuvinate gaming much as its still expensive but for the people that want to go 3D...its totally the way to go.

Decent 3D gaming PC = 1000 bucks

3D projector and a 100 inch high reflective screen = 1000 bucks

3D vision glasses = 200 bucks

2200 dollars for a 100 inch theater screen and a PC which plays 3d blurays, 3D games and lets you do cool stuff in 3d like 3d google earth and 3D picture publishing.

But a 3D bluray/ps3 and a 50 inch 3D screen and you will spend more. Not to mention that there are 5 games and 3 movies to watch at the moment with that setup...

3D is just a gimmick.

I disagree. Many (most?) people are not satisfied in just owning a handheld and that should be the case with the 3DS as well. What the 3DS will do is show people how 3D actually enhances the game, beyond just the way it looks. And then they will want it on a larger than handheld screen.

As to next gen consoles, they will come... next gen. Right now, the following games are 3D ready for the PC - Mafia 2, Trine, Battlefied BC2, Just cause 2, MEtro 2033, Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, COD Black ops in november, Crysis 2 in 2011 and more wil come. Will gamers want to wait until "next gen" once they realize what they can get on the PC vs. with their current console?

And even when next gen arrives - by then (a lot before then actually) every lowly PC will be able to display 3D with no loss, and the costs to get 3D on the PC will still be far far lower than if you'd get yourself a next gen console and a 3D TV.
