FIFA 11 sells 2.6 million units in opening weekend, Ultimate Team coming next month for free

EA’s announced it’s sold 2.6 million units of FIFA 11 across its opening weekend in the US and Europe.

The release of the game, which launched last Tuesday in the US and last Friday in the UK, has raked in $150 million, according to the publisher.

EA also confirmed this year’s iteration of FIFA’s Ultimate Team mode will be coming for free next month, although a specific date wasn’t given.

Some stats were also provided on FIFA’s release. Sell-through for FIFA 11 is up 29 percent compared to FIFA 10 last year, while the period between October 1-2 was the busiest an EA Sports game has had online ever, with 11.3 million players for FIFA 11.

Over 18 million players were on EA Sports online overall at the time.

“We’re thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend, and we are excited to be able to offer one of our most popular game modes – FIFA 11 Ultimate Team – for free this November,” said EA Sports boss Peter Moore.

“This is a landmark achievement for EA SPORTS – we’ve shattered sales records at retail, critics are praising FIFA 11 as being one of the most authentic and innovative titles ever, and fans are connecting and competing with other gamers around the world and have logged a record number of online connected game sessions.”

The game launched for PS3, 360, Wii, PC, PS2, PSP and DS.

Good, bad or meh???

FIFA 10 on 360/PS3 only sold near 1.5M on first week.

So very good opening.

amazing

Truly amazing numbers, especially considering it doesn't even include Canada and Latin American sales. It has launched down there, right Ethomaz? Considering how well PES sold in LA last year I think it could make up a decent percentage of sales. I had a pretty strong feeling Fifa 11 would top Fifa 10 but I didn't think it would be by this much.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

really awesome

Yeah... but PES sell better in LA than FIFA (at least in Brazil).

mehi expected more considering 100% of ps3 owners in my country get fifa once a year, and sometime they slid in a cod.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

PES 2011 is a better game in my openion. FIFA 11 is same as FiFA 10 with little changes. PES is more fun and gives the aaaahhhh and ewwwwwwwww which FIFA will never do.

Your opinion... but no it's not... PES stopped in the time and 2011 editoon has not changed this.
