I know where you are coming from, and I agree actually. Back in the SNES days, genres like platformers, action-adventures, RPG's and Stragegy games were the most popular amongst gamers and therefore hardcore. With the PS and later the Xbox, a lot of formerly non-gamers came and started playing FPS, Sandbox games, racers and sports games. They were reffered to as casual earlier, but as they became more important to the market, they started being the hardcore. That's why nowadays FPS are THE hardcore games for journalists.
