I'd consider Okami Wii an astounding success, really, seeing how it far, far outsold the PS2 original, which had an install base of what, 120 million when the game came out for it?

I assume it made a profit? Hence the release of the sequel I suppose.

I have no idea, but I'm assuming it must have. Probably not the PS2 version alone, because they released the Wii port, but both versions combined most likely. I mean, according to VGC it's @ about 500k LTD, and that's without any EMEAA sales data for either version, and no Americas sales data for the PS2 version... For all we know, it could've easily crossed the million mark.

I remember reading that Okami had sold 670,000 on the Wii up to May 2009. This was because it's the worst-selling GOTY ever, which is bad...

I reckon that sounds reasonable, no?

670,000 on Wii alone? Hm, well, that definitely sounds sort of... plausible, but then it must've sold quite a bit more in EMEAA than in the Americas (according to VGC's numbers)... which doesn't really sound likely, but you never know.

Anyway, such numbers would definitely make it a success in my book, 'cos then it might well have crossed the million mark by now, in combined sales.

I'll see if I can find the source of the info if you'd like, I'm sure it'll be somewhere...

Oh, well yeah that'd be cool. I'd LOVE to know just how many copies were sold...

"Okami (Wii) has sold just under 600,000 copies since launch, dismal for a game garnering the Game of the Year accolade from a major gaming publication)

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Capcom only expected 290k sales for Okami Wii, so around 600k is very much a resounding success.  Not bad for a game ported by four people in seven months.

IIRC, the PS2 original went way over budget and lost money though, and was partially what was used to justify shutting down Clover Studio. :(

Thanks!

They may call it dismal, I'd call it a success, considering the sales projections and the PS2 version's sales numbers.

Around the Network

1) Success.... It is a JRPG afterall....

2) Success... sold really well.  Way better then other console MH

3) Failure... sold worse then the first one.

4) Failure... sold worse then corruption... and really from what i hear feels like it messes with Samus character.  I can only hope this is considered non-canon.

5)  Huge success.... why is this listed?

6) Success... no doubt about it.  Outsold the PS2 version and out profitted it... as in... this likely made profit.
