Yuji Naka hasn't given up hope..

No messing about, let's get straight to it: Sonic creator Yuji Naka told CVG this morning, "I'm hoping to work on Dreamcast 2".

Speaking in London during his promo tour for Ivy the Kiwi?, the Prope boss made the surprising confession that he'd like to work with one of the three platform holders as an "advisor" in the future.

"I do miss those old days when I was heavily involved in hardware making at Sega," Naka told CVG. "I was involved in most of the consoles and controllers that Sega came up with.

"If I have the opportunity in the future I want to be involved again with hardware making," he said. "It would be ideal if I could become some sort of advisor working with the platform makers in future.

"I think if I can work really well with the platform makers then it's good for everyone, because I can then come up with totally new games.

"If Ivy the Kiwi? does well in Europe then maybe I can make Dreamcast 2 (laughs)," he joked, but with a deadly serious undertone:

"Of course Dreamcast was my baby back at Sega and I want to carry on making good games for the European market and one day I'm hoping it gives me the opportunity to work on Dreamcast 2."

Megaton. Come on then platform holders, sign him up.

Yuji Naka, one of the creators of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, recently was quoted as saying he’d like to create a successor to the highly successful Dreamcast. In an interview yesterday with gaming website CVG, Naka stated “I’m hoping to work on Dreamcast 2.”

Though this quote, out of context, might not hold much weight, Naka continues to mention that he misses the days when he used to be more directly involved in making hardware.

And while the Dreamcast 2 is still in the very early rumor stages, Naka’s final quote to CVG is quite blatant: “Of course Dreamcast was my baby back at Sega and I want to carry on making good games for the European market and one day I’m hoping it gives me the opportunity to work on Dreamcast 2.”

Would the Dreamcast 2 be able to hold its own amongst modern consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360? Who knows. But if anything does come to fruition from these quotes, in a few years Yuji Naka will be making some Sega fans very happy indeed.

As if Sega's got the capital for that anymore

Though under the Wii model of constant profitability, it could work. But they would still need a great helluva lot of R&D funding that they probably don't have.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

if sega merge with nintendo and convince them to call their next console the dreamcast 2, then we will see the dreamcast 2.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

merge wouldn't happen. Buy maybe :)

If only, the Dreamcast is such a great console.

Around the Network

Sega never had the kind of capital MS and Sony are dropping now.

Sega doesn't have a huge following either.
