When I started my single-player railroad, I had 889 iron in my stash.  (Eight hundred and eighty nine) 

I ran out. 

Fortunately, it's just one stop denied service; the loop is complete.

Brief clip of my rail line in action.  FRAPS's free version only lets you record 30 seconds at a time; if someone wants to see more video, video capture software recommendations would be appreciated. 

The first brief pause lets you see that exit's rail line, which is different from the second exit's; the second pause shows you the signage and levers. 



[edit:  Due to limited resources, I put the colors every five blocks instead of in a solid line.  This is totally sufficient for demarcation purposes IMO; whether that or a solid line is aesthetically better I leave up to you.  Green and yellow were also chosen due to limited resources:  I have no lapis lazuli.  Green and yellow look OK to me, but some shade of blue might be better in combination with yellow or red or whatever.]

I'm torn between underground and aboveground:  The views are great, but I can see why people wouldn't want big boxes in the sky at every exit.  So, being torn, I am easily swayed by goddog's objection to skyways


im working on the underground one now regardless you have me interested in it, ive cut the tunnel out near your place almost past nicks i might finnish getting it to you tonight, Jeremy's will have to wait, i dont think ill be up that long and ridiculous amounts of lava are slowing me down. 

if you want to build an underground station for yours thats cool, stations i don't mind looking like what ever but tunnels need to be a certain way. after i finnish the tunnel to you/jeremy, and the finalfan/oldben tunnel ill cut a brand new tunnel out to the south where every body is

Got some more iron (dug in my organized mine instead of exploring caves as normal) and finished it.  Grand total of iron used:  about 984 ingots.  Only a little bit went into creeper repair (maybe 4 iron worth). 

Let's see, 14 carts (exit boosters, destination boosters, and rider cart):  70 iron

914/6= 152 and a third.  Hmm, that's not right.  Let's round down.  152*16= -- hell, round down a little more, obviously I made a mistake somewhere. 

150*16= 2400 pieces of track. 

Now let's do it again on the server, only bigger!  Woo! 

At least I'm not going to mine it all this time. 

Note:  Considering the scope of the project, and my questionable navigation skills, I'm waiting for the new map before I begin excavating for this project.  I don't want to find out I built a bridge to nowhere while customers languish. 

No pressure, goddog, I'm just explaining why I'm not doing much on the server in relation to this.

status update on  my subway, the line cut to nick/wick/jeremy is almost done,  ive got to measure out the remaining distance, but im out to wicks right now. i checked on the other tunnels, beens needs major work, the lighting is off and the glass was never finished.  joes station needs more light vie added just a bit in the short term. the line out to final fan will be cut next. after that i will cut a line to where every one is building now

i rendered one today, form my sunday save, it should be online tonight. its rotated correctly this time. though i could not render the better type of maps, ours is just too big, lucky to get the normal to work

 

going to be tommorow morning issues with my windows partition stability again.

I tried helping out with the whole cart track system today but I evidently don't have it figured out how to properly switch between tracks at the stations. I continued the track from the spawnpoint to a small peninsula near the far end of Spawn Island, where I was putting in a new station, and I was going to go from there BELOW my small Stargate to a point in between my Hilltop Fortress and my big sci-fi castle (there's a small pond there that's somewhat closed in, works fairly well as a new statio location).

From there, I was going to run it to the big Stargate, then who knows from there.

If that's not a satisfactory route, that's fine; it CAN be set to switch between multiple routes. But right now, I'm just trying to figure out how to do these stations so they properly work for going to and from different routes. I want to be able to return even if the switch is set for the OTHER station, y'know? Can't figure it out (though I haven't really TRIED that deeply either).
