Brief clip of my rail line in action. FRAPS's free version only lets you record 30 seconds at a time; if someone wants to see more video, video capture software recommendations would be appreciated.
The first brief pause lets you see that exit's rail line, which is different from the second exit's; the second pause shows you the signage and levers.
[edit: Due to limited resources, I put the colors every five blocks instead of in a solid line. This is totally sufficient for demarcation purposes IMO; whether that or a solid line is aesthetically better I leave up to you. Green and yellow were also chosen due to limited resources: I have no lapis lazuli. Green and yellow look OK to me, but some shade of blue might be better in combination with yellow or red or whatever.]
