Butbutbut ... I thought you were just giving yourself resources.  I mean ... the BRICK ... and the GLASS ... I mean ...

Besides which, just the not finding any diamond.  It seems pretty dry to me, too, when I've explored caves and dug mines, but I've at least found enough to replace what I use up.

bricks and glass spawned. but no kits, the main area, was built with sand made into glass, also mined out with stone and ore picks. no tnt, used though, it got to the point i was having issues finding sand without stealing all of joes sand, there uses to be a few sand islands near my base. and i had a tree farm for a long time to keep my supply of wood up on the island before i took it below the sea

 

and as for the slime... thats a pain, but i dont think they can stop powered carts, ive never really played with launchers as they were always bugged on servers until recently, and powered mine carts can push a chain of carts, just not other powered mine carts

But the slimes sometimes spawn in gigantic size, I wouldn't be surprised if they did stop your powered cart and anyway wouldn't they hurt the player pretty badly if he just sat there trying to ram through them? 

I would really hate to go down there and be constructing a system that won't work.  Speaking of which, I thought we were going to be using boosters? 

Would it be possible to post a new map?  It would help plan the route.  For one thing, will it be a circuit going around an area, or just a line going down and back?

I did some work in single player, because I thought I could set up a full scale example of the rail system without messing up the landscape for you guys on the server.  HA!  I barely managed to make a "production model" station, with short stretches of two-way track going to and from it, and a connection to my base.  But if I keep at it I'm sure I'll get more adept. 

Based on this activity, I believe the station itself can fit inside a 10x12x12 box. 

To help people navigate while on the rails (since we are currently planning only one station for both directions of traveler) I propose color coding the lines with a wool strip on the outside of the rails.  Lime Green and Yellow would work best out of the colors that can be realistically produced in bulk, but if we are just fabricating the materials with the give command then shades of blue are also possible. 

In the current design, signage will allow two lines of description for the destination(s) that the station serves.

I may have misunderstood you, I thought you meant "powered" as in furnace minecarts might push aside slimes, which may or may not be true but doesn't help us either way.  I'm sure slimes will stop boosted carts.  Maybe the tiny ones would only slow you down, but they travel in packs anyway so they'd stop you too.

its a shame, i may work on the tunnel system even if its not used for rail, it will just beocme a semi hazordus underground walkway

and above it should have read boosters are fine.

I've begun work on mystery towers in the distant north. Relics from an ancient, lost civilization, some of the towers are still intact and properly operable (torches, ladders), but some are dilapidated ruins, scarcely recognizable as what once was a tower. And of course, there will be all sorts in between.

 

Right now, I have four complete. Two full towers, one in partial disarray (really, I fell from it and died, and haven't been able to find it again), and one broken down ruins.

Right about now would be the ideal time to get a good map copy of this place.

The single player highway is coming along nicely.  After doing three or four stations I think they're more or less standardized.  But they aren't identical:  some of the exits only use one piece of track to go to the destination, some use two, etc. 

I currently expect to finish sometime around Sunday.  If I can figure out video capture I'll put it up so you guys can see what I'm talking about. 

I'm torn between underground and aboveground:  The views are great, but I can see why people wouldn't want big boxes in the sky at every exit.  So, being torn, I am easily swayed by goddog's objection to skyways
