I agree it'll be profitable at $199... one day. The next price drop will bring it down to $249.

Sony is one of many major companies with their hand in Bluray profits. I'm sure the growth of digital downloads/piracy, rentals, and streaming is really eating into potential Bluray profits as well. Hurting the Playstation brand was not worth it.

To add to think that Sony would rop to $200 and lose money for the sake of selling an extra say 5 million consoles in a year when the next generation is about to start is foolish.

by what means do you think they will be losing money?

 

and it is also foolish to think that they will be selling ps3 for $249 with the next generation about to start

I don't expect GT5 to have as big of a boost in sales as some of you think.  Remember that Sony has been using GT5 to sell the PS3 since the day the new console was announced.  Lots of those fans already have it.   Plus, the effect is spread out over the weeks leading to the launch, not just the one week, the same way Halo has helped move boxes all summer instead of just a single launch week boost.  Plus, it'll be all hidden within holiday sales anyway, so even if it's there, it's going to be hard to see.


that happens with all games but when the the game actually releases,there is a noticeble bump

Sony has advantage in SW because they make more games also more platforms!

No way u cant compare Xbox Biggest games to Sony because Sony has like no chance ... Halo , Gears or Fable outsell Sony st Party this GEN! Only GT5 may have a Shot of beating Gears of War and Halo is out of question.

No way u cant compare Xbox Biggest games to Sony because Sony has like no chance ... Halo , Gears or Fable outsell Sony st Party this GEN! Only GT5 may have a Shot of beating Gears of War and Halo is out of question.

I didn't understant your comment. More plataforms? We are just talking about PS3 and 360... no others. If biggest games on Xbox sold more than biggest on PS3 why PS3 had a lead???

And excpet Halo 3, Gears, Resistance and GT5:P all others exclusive sold less than 2M on Europe... Fable II a little more than 1M.

Modern Warfare 2 sold 100k more on PS3 than 360.... GTA4 sold 600k more on PS3.

Wha is "out of question"??? PS3 is bigger on software sales in Europe.

Your statement is incorrect.

Sony sold more software than 360 in EMEEA ONLY with the ps3.

The biggest sony's franchise isn't available contrary to micro$oft and its four halo released this gen.

So there is only gears franchise which sold more, because sony has plenty of first party at 3 millions like Fable (both Uncharted 1 and 2 , Littlebigplanet, Resistance... a DEMO...)

And don't forget M$ has one year and a half of lead in those countries.

I was talking WW but if u see Halo 3 has 3M no other Sony 1st Party this Gen has more... Only MW2 but also have more on 360 than Halo3...

Wow Cod is huge on Europe but its like 8M and 4M on 360 and Ps3 in Americas ?? Damn wtf people still buying that freaking game get me out of me.

And GTA4 on PS3 sold more than 3M too.

Except Halo 3... in terms of first party PS3 sold more than 360 in Europe... MotorStorm sold better than a lot first party on 360.

Well thats good numbers for EMEAA but cant compare to Americas still not uncharted 2 in the list is bad because such a great game deserved to be on that top...
