What about PS3?

Sony has more first party titles and franchises than MS but then you have Halos and Gearses at the Xbox so I'll take a shot and guess around 210m third party titles sold for the PS3. Very likely to surpass Wii's totals in the mid term, one could say. Someone could correct me later if I'm wrong.

Anyways you could say numbers are pretty meaningless for real gamers when you take a look at which titles make up for the Wii third party numbers. Just Dance, Cabela Big Hunter, Fitness Coach... when you remember the SNES/N64 or even the GC days it's pretty depressing man. That's the price Nintendo paid for being back at the top and have their money.

Yeah pretty much.

Well I guess the first party titles make up for that, with games pulling of like 15, 20 million units.

Numbers that won't be achieved by any other current gen console (despite DS)

I hope the next Nintendo platform has a better 3rd party support, like we're seeing on the 3DS.

Well that's usually what happens when there is little competition and a high userbase. It's not very good for the industry though when it's only the console leader lining their pockets.

The xbox brand didn't made profit till mid 2008 for many reasons, being ROD in the first place at the podium of massive losses. PS3 get out of the black last year I think.

Many studios closed due to HD flops.

I don't know what is worst to the industry honestly.

MS took a hit in 2007 for RROD, profits/losses since have nothing to do with RROD and they're making healthy profits now. PS3 is now profiting (only division to profit last Q).

I see many studios shifting work to HD consoles due to flops on the wii, and if more companys are closing due to HD flops, it's only because there are a heck of a lot more actually working on the HD consoles.

The industry is bigger than Sony and Microsoft, if they can manage their losses then it doesn't really affect the industry. Thankfully they can because I dread to think what the situation would be like if PS360 were doing bad ..

The only studios that flopped made crap games. Some have struggled because they put out some bad big budget games (I'm looking at you Capcom).

Studios pumping out quality games still seem to be going strong. They probably do better because crap studios are out of the picture.

And lets not pretend developers haven't lost money working on the Wii.

Yeah, didn't Ubisoft abandon all core game development on the Wii? they seemed pretty unhappy last time I saw a statement from them.

It was much less than in HD consoles that's for sure. Also if they made actual games and not crap they could sell better. We will maybe see this scenario on move and kinect since those are the same principle as the wii: get casuals into gaming. And somewhat casual almost means crappy. Let's see how both devices shape up, but for now things aren't looking good for kinect even at launch.

@ seece

my point stands. Microsft didn't know what profit means till 2008. Of course things like bad hardware conception, rod, pricetag at a loss and the first xbox, all helped the doom boat.

Gotta hit the bed now, nice talking to you guys =)

mmmm, no it doesn't. As long as Microsoft are ok with those losses, it's not hurting the industry. MS and Sony have helped the industry far more than Nintendo have this gen.

That's because they put less money into Wii. Hence, less money put in means less lost if sales are bad.

Anyhow, the only games I can really point at for poor sales were not good games period.
