I  call it, the vitality sensor is unnofficially dead. I was wondering what the rest of you think of this assesment?

Lets see Nintendo announced the vitality sensor at E3 2009, not a single game was shown for the device. Nintendo promised updates soon there after. However nothing at their annual conference in 2009, many expected it to be at GDC this year. However the sensor was nowhere to be seen then E3 happened and everyone thought it would be there. But no the device was not at E3 Iwata and Miyamoto both commented saying that E3 just wasn't the right place to announce the device. So more waiting and then people started talking that it would be shown at Nintendo's big conference yesterday. Yet no device shown, infact WiiMote Plus was there but no word on Vitality Sensor.

So with no show and no announcements in over a year I think the product has been buried. Do you agree?

I think Nintendo is now focused on their next console

No.

Perhaps Nintendo didn't get the response they hoped.

Also, this may not be the time to release and lame perhiperal like that.

It certainly seems to have gone on indefinite hold at least.

It was announced at the same E3 as Move and Kinect (Natal and Dildo at the time) and here we are Move is out, Kinect in a month or so. I think Ninty probably tried to get 3rd party devs on board, but they weren't having any of it. What with them having to get working on Kinect and Move for Sony, the Vitality Sensor was probably a device with no clear application to bring in the punters. Likely Ninty didn't have its own suite of games to run past 3rd parties to get them on board either.

Perhaps Ninty figure releasing with Wii2 gives them the opportunity to work on a killer app for it, and it will release with every console so it will have a 100% attach rate, giving 3rd parties more incentive to develop with it in mind.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Maybe it's been delayed for Miyamoto j-drama inspired game?

Will never get released.

Unless Nintendo considers releasing Ero-games, maybe.

Looking forward to: FF Versus XIII / LBP2 / The Last Guardian / Yakuza 4 / ICO Collection

I fail to see why people reckon the Vitality Sensor would be big...

Name me one good use for it in games.

The Vitality Sensor was never a game changer. I know plenty in the Peanut Gallery were calling this out as the Next Big Thing for the Wii that would "explode" sales once again, but it just doesn't have the same mass appeal as Wii Fit and the Balance Board.

I think it could still have a future, but probably not in the same form that was displayed in 2009. It could possibly be integrated into the general controls for the successor to the Wii.

Other possible scenario is we end up seeing it debut with a Nintendo game that requires the peripheral and it ends up being something more like the Wii Zapper or microphone than the Balance Board. If support is limited to a game or two, or even a small handful of games, it won't have big impact overall.
