I have to agree with PearlJam. The Gears 2 multiplayer is terrible, and this is coming from someone who plays it every night.

Is it fun? Yes.

Is it balanced? Hah, no.

Is it fundamentally sound? Absolutely not.

Even without the lag, and there are some things that don't make sense and they happen quite frequently. The hit detection on the shotgun is absolutely terrible half the time. People abuse the melee and about all the kills you see are two pieces. There's also a pretty clear advantage if you're the host, namely, your shotgun is way stronger and everybody else's hardly effects you. My point is a game like Halo whose multiplayer is fundamentally sound makes it look like a joke.

Thats kind of true, except I find it balanced. Bungie did a much better job with Halo.

Either way the debate is did Gears 2 mess up Gears online, and I see much less problems with Gears 2 multiplayer then Gears 1. It's not the most perfect experience (DAMN TWO PEICERS!!!), but I still love it. I put more hours into both Gears multiplayer then any other game online.

The only reason I say that is because stupid stuff, like mortar shells going through roofs and torque bow rounds killing people without hitting them happens a lot. Everything else is fine.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I love the Gears series, and Gears 3 is my most anticipated game next year, but there will definitly be games that outsell it. Pokemon Black and White, MW3 (if released), Zelda Wii, Vitality Sensor game, and possibly Wii Party should outsell it. That's not to say it won't sell huge numbers, just not the biggest.

Well I just play with people who don't miss with the torque bow. lol Only place I've seen mortars go through roofs is open roofs like in River. I've seen that torque bow glitch, If it hits something and blows up near them thats legit, if it glances them and gets stuck on an invisible shirt, thats stupid, however when I play, the later is uncommon, and sometimes a direct hit only sticks on to this invisible shirt.

Let me first admit, that I haven't played Gears 2 lately, though I put a ton of hours into Multiplayer when it first released (level 67 I think).

I would still contend that no other multiplayer experience is as visceral, or rewarding as deathmatch on Gears.

However the inconsistency finally drove me away.  It's cool that you've never been on the recieving end of a crap connection but it happened too frequently for my sanity.  Inconsistent hit detection, inconsistent weapon power, team host advantage, lag-switching...these things ruined what would otherwise still be my favorite game.

That being said, I'm eagerly anticipating three and hoping that lots of this stuff gets fixed so I can return to Gears multiplayer.

Yeah, Gears is huge, and I love the series and all, but let's be serious. It is not a 7 million seller, especially within 7 months. I see it getting as high as 5-5.5 million by the end of 2011, but not much further.

That kind of total is not nearly enough to top the year for sales, not even close. Just look at VGC's worldwide yearly chart, there are far too many big games releasing every year for 5 million to be a contender. Hell, I'll bet on at least 3 (maybe one currently unknown) Nintendo games topping 6 million.

Gears of War 3 is no way the biggest game 2011. Hell, I doubt it will even be in the top 5.

Since everybody is already calling Wii and PS3 games, I'll list PC exclusives that are going to beat Gears 3:

  1. Diablo III
  2. Guild Wars 2
  3. Star Wars: The Old Republic
  4. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

Other PC exclusives that coud beat GoW3:

  1. Might and Magic: Heroes VI
  2. Shogun 2: Total War
  3. Neverwinter
  4. Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online

Gears 3 will be in the top 5 next year and that is good enough for MS and EPIC.

I don't see any game next year outselling it. Mabye Pokemon Black/White will beat it. But those games are combined...You'd have to split the sales for that.

With smooth online, better graphics, beast mode, horde 2.0, and being the ending game of the series, I belive Gears 3 can sell 7 million by the end of 2011.

Let's think about other games that could outsell it:

killzone 3- no

little big planet 2- no

modern warfare 3- mabye but idt it will sell nearly as good as mw2

wii sports resort- maye but i wont count it as it comes free with the controller

discuss! im glad my favorite series will dominate next year! :))))

Let me just say as a fan I know Gears 3 will have a hit year, it just might be the best seller, but even if not does it really matter? Thankfully 360 owners have a good choice of great games of which many are selling BIG numbers !

  • We are talkng about sales here, only game on that list that could beat Gears in sales is Diablo III (Star Craft is 2012). The Old Republic probably could if you gave it some time, but it wont in 2011 thats for sure. Funny part is that the only games that has the potential to be better is also Diablo III and The Old Republic imo. Also Starcraft (which again wont be out before 2012)

GoW is and always will be God of War please don't call Gears GoW.

First, I don't see the point in only counting sales made in 2011, and not throughout the lifetime of the games that are released in 2011. If so, then why not count the sales of Starcraft 2 and WoW: Cataclysm, and other games released in 2010, that will easily sell millions in 2011?

Second, Diablo 3's sales will be in a whole other level than Gears 3. Diablo 2 should have over 10 millions sold by now, and Diablo 3 will sell at least 15 millions.

And why ignore Guild Wars 2?! The first Guild Wars sold over 6.5 millions, more than both Gears of War 1 and 2. And GW2 has A LOT of hype around it.

As for The Old Republic, if it becomes a great game, it will easily make more money than Gears of War 3. Star Wars Bioware PC-Centric F2P = Filthy Money.
