Note the question is about Mass Effect 3.
So Mass Effect 2 on 360 has recently broken 2 million LTD. It's still seeing strong weekly sales and this will be it's first holidays, so the sales will carry on nicely. Possibly making it to 2.5 million before year end? Fairly confident it can leg it up to 3 million.
ME2 on PS3 coming in January. I don't expect really big things for ME2 on PS3 but I am hoping for a solid fanbase to be established (like me) on it. Though I know Squilliam is determied I get the ME series for PC, I wan't to support the game as a console multiplat; sorry Squill, gotta look at the larger strategic picture here.
Also the other thing I find disappointing about this generation is that it looks like (correct me if I'm wrong) there isn't a 5 million+ selling game this gen that fits the following profile: on HD console, a new IP this gen, not a FPS/TPS shooter.
So I'd really like (for the sake of new IP development that's in a genre I much prefer over TPS/FPS) for Mass Effect 3 to break that 5 million barrier. I really hope that with it being a multiplat it will get 5 million.
I think it's a tall order, and I think 360 will have to carry most of the sales based primarily on the fact that it doesn't matter what EA does with the Mass Effect 2 port, their inability to bring Mass Effect 1 across to PS3 will mean both ME2 and ME3 are slightly limited for PS3. So I think ME3 will need to do at least 3 million on 360 for 5 million across PS360 to be a chance. And even then 2 million on PS3 would be an impressive achievement.
So can we get a new IP RPG over 5 million this gen? For such a great game it would be really cool for PS3 and 360 gamers to actually be on the same side for once.
