DS never ceases to amaze me. This thing could sell 200 million when it's all said and done, maybe more. I'm curious to see how it sells once 3DS is released.

360 recieved quite a boost from Halo: Reach, pretty much expected. Will recieve another from Kinect. But it'll be interesting to see where it stablises when the dust settles.

PS3 barely inched ahead of Wii despite Move launch and Wii having nothing compelling. I think it's safe to say Sony simply needs more hit games if they want to do well in sales, not hardware addons and the 28th PS3 console skew/bundle.

Wii, meh what can you say? Pretty mediocre sales, but then again it currently has mediocre releases for the past 9 months. I don't really count Metroid Other M, since I knew from day one the game would not more hardware.

Nintendo just has to weather another month or so of these types of sales until Kirby is released, which should fire up sales at least a little bit. But it won't recieve a MAJOR hardware boost until the holiday season kicks in and DKC is released. The console has the potential to reach its 2009 sales with the strong lineup this holiday.

Oh and as for Halo Reach... hot damn! It will be interesting to see how its legs are. It looks like a sweet game. I want to get either this or Black Ops, but I can't decide which.

Do you honestly believe that? There's no NSMBWii/Price cut this year and not even Nintendo believes that's possible.

There was no NSMB but there is DKC, Kirby, Wii Party, Goldeneye, and Epic Mickey, and the continued effect of NSMB to potentially pick up the extra slack. NSMB was huge, but it was practically the only major title. This year, there are several major titles. I may be mistaken, but I thought Wii was already tracking close to 2009 numbers during this point last year, and is actually up YoY in Japan? Doesn't seem like to much of a stretch to me.

So Halo Reach pushed the 360 past the PS3 for YTD software sales.

PRetty amazing!

I wonder if GT5 can do enough to push PS3 back over.....but then with COD Black Ops 360 will be pushed back over!

Yeah it's gonna be interesting to see if Fable 3, COD:BO,etc can beat out the GT effect.  I think the 360 may just edge it but its still impressive that  the PS3 has caught it up this year.  Only reason I think GT will not push the PS3 over is I don't see it being as front loaded as COD and Fable 3, I maybe proved wrong of course!

I'd say your spot on actually

GT5 will be more of a legs game, like the previous GT's really and COD, Fable combined on 360 will be higher than GT5's week 1

So this is the third week where Wii is in third place among the home consoles this year. Although it was by such an insignificant margin on ACE:R week that it's really not worth arguing over. Still completely unbelievable. It's almost surreal, could anyone have predicted this at the start of the year? And Rhonin, I think you're missing a week on those YOY tables.

I used the following as first weeks: Week Ending 09th Jan 2010 for 2010, Week Ending 10th Jan 2009 for 2009, and Week Ending 12th Jan 2008 for 2008.

And when comparing the totals with the VGChartz yearly numbers they match, well except 2010, but that's probably because of adjustments.

It appears that VGChartz includes Week Ending 05th Jan 2008 in 2008 numbers, while my spreadsheet doesn't. Adding it would be a problem as 2008 would get an extra week.

Fantastic sales for 360, PS3 gets a boost thanks to move! Wii ... lowest ever weekly sales, wonder if it'll drop below 130k next week?

Ouch, so much for the argument that motion controls are the root of Wii's success.

Yeah, I don't believe your logic is valid there.  People have already seen motion now for years.  They're not so easily impressed anymore.  Good games are needed, and Sony hasn't released the good ones yet.

People have seen motion like THIS for years.  Despite the unique features that Move has - the consumer see it used and it looks like the Sony Wiimote.  Something many have already played before.

It honestly seems like Sony has to convince people who own PS3's already - that it's worth buying.  Forget convincing someone without a PS3, that Move is the answer for buying their console.  Not if you're going to have technology that too closely resembles the Wiimote.

This will not even get 1/3 of the populous brought in by the Wii.  It's just - not different enough for them to justify it.  And in my opinion - it may be too accurate for it's own good.

Holy smokes PS3 ahead of Wii. Nice! Hopefully this is the start of a trend.

It was tracking similarly to last years numbers but it's been losing quite a lot as of late. Plus holidays will be impossible to match. The only big games there are DKCR and Wii Party. The rest will be million sellers for sure but won't move much HW at all. I still think that Nintendo's predictions are close to what's going to happen, but I could see it go even lower. (Talking FY here, but still the holidays will increase the YoY by a huge chunk)

I doubt GT5 will have great legs in either NA or Japan. In Japan no game , not made by nintendo, has legs and in NA Gt5 will be quickly buried by COD , kinect and other stuff that will have huge hype at that time plus NA doesn't really care much about racers (not called mario kart) anyway.

You wish- when we get to the holidays the Wii will be back on top no question. I'd say another week, maybe 2, at the most where it'll be close.
