Nintendo Power: Cave Story Going Portable [Update]

Cave Story, the delightful shooter-platformer released via WiiWare early this year, looks like it will hit another Nintendo platform soon. The new issue of Nintendo Power lists Cave Story for DSiWare in its new game index.

It certainly doesn't look like a mistake, but we've not heard word from Studio Pixel or Nicalis on the possibility of a Cave Story port for Nintendo's other download service. We've reached out to Nicalis seeking confirmation.

Update: Nicalis responds with the following information about the next Cave Story release. From Nicalis' e-mail:

  • Yes, there is a forthcoming Cave Story for DSiWare
  • Yes, it's really awesome and has Pixel's blessing; he recently played it a few weeks back and loved it
  • Yes, the EU version for WiiWare is still scheduled to be released; we commissioned Orioto to create this AWESOME Cave Story painting in celebration of both.
  • And the game is actually DONE, we're currently in final testing internally

The wait for the European Cave Story Wiiware is getting beyond a joke now

More reasons to get the game, we can play it on the move.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

I'll buy and love it twice. <3

That...sounds tempting, actually. I already own it on WiiWare regardless, but the thought of Cave Story on the go is intriguing.

Something else: Supposedly the European version of Cave Story Wii is going to fix the glitch that caused the percussion elements of the new soundtrack to be missing. I'd really like to hear that, as I think I'm one of the few people who preferred the new music over the original regardless.
