"Honestly. I wouldn't call Mario a core game anymore. Sure, it can appeal to core gamers... But it's also a franchise that attracts huge amounts of casual gamers after this generation."
Mario has sold 10-20Mplus every gen, what makes you think this gen is any different? Mario Kart has remained a system seller every gen. It's had an attach ratio of 30-40% each gen hasn't it?
The 'core' is usually the centre or foundation of something isn't it? Mario isn't core anymore, lol.

You know what I mean. Stop being picky over words I use just for arguments sake.
Stop trying to turn it into some stupid core vs casual argument. Mario's increased sales this gen are obviously down a mix between the usual Mario audience and the expanded market.
SMK was about ~25%
MK64 was about ~30%
MKDD was back to ~25%
MKSC was under 10%
MKDS is 15-20% I think...
MK Wii is somewhere above 30% I think.
As you can see, attach ratios on handhelds are greater this generation, despite there being more (and more successful) versions of DS being available. Thus, reeducing that attach ratio somewhat.
MK Wii also has the highest attach ratio.
I think it's safe to assume that these attach ratios have increased due to the expanded market... Mario Party is another great example to use here.
