Forums - Gaming - Kudo: "Hardly anyone plays FPS on the PC anymore"

bullshit! people dont buy pc games. but they play it! in my country of 4 million people i can assure you that more then 1500 people play fps games on pc.

i dont know why hes boasting about consoles. consoles will never have blizzards support, consoles will never havw warcraft/starcraft, i only use my pc to play warcraft and starcraft, while im mainly a console gamer, never have games given me an experience as amazing as warcraft/starcraft. the foundation of the games are great, but then you go to the custom games! every single one is amazing.  and the lamest one(tree tag) wipes the floor of every other game. id rather play warcraft all my life then get other games.

i agree fps games arent that popular on pcs anymore compared to 5,10 years ago, but for me and for everyone whos been playing forzen throne for the past 6 years(not sure about that number) the console is the wife, but the pc is the host mistress waiting for you in a hotel in hot lingerie.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

He's point about game design is quite good, but trying to elevate Kinect by saying that there is pretty stupid. The guy could use a PR coach or something...

PC FPS Games are doing just fine last time I checked S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Crysis, and others are doing well but there are not as many hardcore PC FPS as there used to be though because alot start development on Console and get ported to PC.

Kinect lead designer Kudo Tsunoda has weighed into the decline of PC gaming whilst responding to a question as to how Microsoft are approaching the design of future titles for the new hands-free motion control device.

"If you think about the way that first person shooters evolved, they started on the PC," Tsunoda comments. "People for the longest time tried to port shooters from the PC onto the console. And people said the same things that they are saying now about Kinect - "It's never going to be responsive enough to do this," or "You're never going to get a fun first person shooter on the console - it's only made for a keyboard and mouse and that is the way it is supposed to be played." And as long as everyone was just porting the existing shooters over to console, they weren't as fun as the PC ones. Of course, they were built for the PC."

He continues, "Halo did an awesome job of building a first-person shooter exclusively for the console, and now hardly anyone plays first person shooters on the PC anymore. It's all about the console."

"And I feel it is the same with Kinect stuff. If you are constantly trying to take something that is made for a controller and port it over to Kinect, it's not going to be a good experience because it is made for a controller. If you take the time to build it for Kinect from the ground up, however, you can make something that is a very new experience, but lots of times even more fun than it was before."

In relation to this, NPD announced this morning that PC downloads have surpassed retail figures within the first six months of this year within the US, proving that PC gaming still has plenty of life left in it.

Between January to June alone, 11.2 million games were downloaded in comparison to a further 8.2 million that were sold at retail. Whilst sales for both were reportedly down by 21 per cent, Kudo is perhaps a little too quick to hammer a nail into the PC gaming coffin.

What is up with this guy lately?

this guy is just gone completely insane imo sometimes he says kinect better than ipad  sometimes the things u stated above thats all i can say about this guy

Death to PC gaming I say, I bought a $900 quad core pc with a ATI 5830  and 4 gigs of mem but I play nothing on it because most pc I think suck or i'd rather play on consoles.

He's point seem to be just like  today's FPS uses the controller over the keyboard and mouse (which still is more precise) some time in the future people will play games with  Kinect over the controller. The flaws with this thinking is gamers don't have a choose but to use a controller on console FPS. If given the option I would pick keyboard & mouse over controller any day when it comes to FPS. That's  one of the cons to consoles , you are limited by the makers of that console.

Dude's fuckin bullshit with poor choice of words.

So is Steam dead? I have friends who log into Steam daily to play Team Fortress 2 Online.

I'm a primary console gamer but I played BioShock on PC last night.

One of the downsides of keyboard and mouse  on consoles is it hard to use them on the couch.  One of the downside of Kinect is it's hard to use it on the couch.  So a controller is more handy to use on the couch than both keyboard/mouse and Kinect.

Minor point? Uh-huh.

Absolulutely, it is a minor point in the quote.  it is also a correct point in that context.

"Anymore" means present. If lots people are playing PC FPS in the present, then the sentence is just not true.

Hardly is not a defined number.  Depending on the context, it could range from virtually no-one up to a decent chunk - let's say 25-30%.  The point that he is trying to make is that the bulk of FPS games sold today are console games, which is a true statement.

Seriously, man, you're the only person here that is not acting reactionary.

Kudo is likely a very smart guy to have gotten where he is, so paying attention to what he MEANS is the most important thing.  Instead overly sensitive gamer types here respond like he called their mother a ho.  Same thing on Kotaku and neoGAF.  Sad state we're in ...

Thing is, when you're in his position, you can't make such blundering PR statements as the gaming media feed on this stuff.

His overall point may have been somewhat valid but he has to choose his words more carefully. At the end of the day, that single sentence is false, even if his overall point is valid.
