Forums - Sales - Sony: Microsoft Reliant on Shooters

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/82111/sony-xbox-360-is-reliant-on-shooters/

I figured now would be as good of a time as any to debate the perception of the 360 as a "shooterbox." Peter Dille didn't exactly say that, but it's directly implied with his comments about Microsoft.

Anyway my take is that this is pretty ironic considering that the PS3 has more exclusive shooters and more shooters published by Sony than the 360 has by Microsoft.

Taking a gander at the list:

Sony:
Resistance
Resistance 2
Resistance 3
SOCOM: US Navy Seals Confrontation
SOCOM 4
Killzone 2
Killzone 3
Warhawk
MAG

Microsoft:
Halo 3
Halo 3 ODST
Halo Reach
Gears of War (also on PC)
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3
Left 4 Dead (also on PC, published by Valve)
Left 4 Dead 2 (also on PC, published by Valve)

So that's 9 to 8 Sony or 9 to 5 Sony if you wanna discount the "console exclusives." What does everyone else think of Dille's comments? Is it coincidental that they were made the release of Halo Reach?

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I think the bigger picture here is that no matter how much of something you have doesn't mean it's what you are primarily relying on.  When you look at SONY's other 1st/2nd party offerings, it's reasonable to say that they are relying on a fair mix of genres including shooters.

Dille is right, because Sony's shooters don't sell well. It's his right to be proud of that.

Games like the Resistance series and Killzone 2 doesn't sell as well as the Halo franchise, but that doesn't mean it does NOT sell well.

Exactly what I am saying.

HAHA!!!  I fixed my post and this one.  Sorry.  Typo.

Its true if you look @ microsoft they tend to cling onto big FPS titles(remember MW2 exclusive dlc's and sku), now they even have exclusive deals for the next 3 COD DLC or sumthing.

It doesn't contradict his statement if Sony has more shooters.  Sony has more of EVERYTHING.  They just make more and more varied games.

Only speaking for myself, I'm a platformer fan and a Mega-Man fan.  What attracted me to the PS3 was the Ratchet & Clank series because I felt it's Mega-Man done right in 3D.  Is there shooting in both Mega-Man and R&C?  Yes.  But there is also strong platforming elements.  Essentially, R&C is an action/adventure platformer shooter with the platformer aspect attracting me to the series.  Then there was this "little" surprise called Little Big Planet.  Platforming is what first attracted me to the PS3.

The hallmark of Playstation is right there.  Everyone has a different reason for getting one.  For anyone who bought an Xbox1, what was the reason you bought it? Go ahead, I'll wait.  And to a lesser extent, the 360 is driven by Halo, COD, Gears.  These are like the pillars of the console.  With Sony, the top is COD (fair enough, the game is huge), MGS4, Uncharted, God of War, LBP and soon GT5.  No one Sony game really defines the console, that's my point.

yup thats why I bought PS3 because of the diversed game library.

I think he was trying to say that Sony offers a larger variety of everything, while Microsoft usually sticks to it's key shooter franchises. I don't think it's actually true, but I do like how Sony actually backs different genres instead of only backing ones that are guaranteed to sell. I'm still disappointed that Banjo & Kazooi: Nuts & Bolts, Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, Ninja Blade and so many other games are either ignored or just rushed out by Microsoft when they could have been great or sold much better.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
