lol this must be the strangest thread in a very long while. What does it matter?

it doesn't, but it is interesting how states have different road qualities.  Something I always notice when I go traveling.

Get yourself a DS or something, you're clearly far too bored while on the road.

I have a DS, a PSP, and an Ipod touch, all of which are worthless when I travel as I am usually the one driving.

I honestly do not see how this can be proved or discussed.

I mean, I'll just say Virginia 'cause I live here and roads are good.

Depends on where in Virignia you're talking about.  I live in VA too, grew up in NoVa (in one of the richest counties in the country) so the roads were all in great condition.  For the past two years I've lived in Richmond and the roads are terrible, all the infrastructure of this whole city is really.  As a city you can tell there was never a solid plan to construction, many roads will go back in forth between being a two way and a one way, sometimes they end and start up again, the blacktop is terrible too.  In the business district it's repaved on a regular basis but anywhere else is full of potholes and many places are missing paint on the road.  The only thing keeping this city alive is VCU really, they keep buying up more buildings and renovating them into new classrooms and along with that comes a repaving/painting of the nearby road and sidewalk repair.  Without a big college this whole area would have been a stagnant depressing mess, but all the kids boost the local economy a bit.

Yeah, I live in Fairfax, and according to Wikipedia, we're the second richest county in the U.S in terms of average household income.

Northern Virginia is very well off.

Dumb Loudon took first place, too. >:[ *shakes fist*

Loudouns in first eh?  That's the county I grew up in! heh, I remember it being third when I was in high school.  Btw if you're ever in Leesburg go to Giovanni's, my dad's pizzeria, rated best in the state  http://www.giovannisnypizza.net/

I used to drive an 18 wheeler for 4 or 5 years and have been in every state east of the Mississippi River and many others to the west of it.  And  as far as I am concerned  Michigan (Detroit mainly) has the worst highway road system along with Pennsylvania (the entire state) as far as I am concerned.  And the sad thing about it is that they probably spend more money repairing the roads than most places.  Their winters are so bad (Michigan) they are in a constant state of disrepair.  I once drove through one particular pot hole and didn't emerge for a couple minute. :)

The best road systems would have to be one of the Southern States (Florida, Georgia, Alabama etc...  The road systems seem to last longer as well because of the warmer weather.  And indeed Florida has some really good roads.   (Kentucky, my home state, is fairly respectable but not the best.  We recently had a large investment in road work and we are also getting a new Interstate system that goes through my town!  I-66.)

I like posts like these.

Hows Minnesota rank in terms of road conditions?

I have only been through Minnesota once and it was in the summer time.  I don't remember much about the roads being to bad.  So that means they are probably in the middle somewhere.  When I was driving I tried my damndest to stay south as much as possible just due to the snow and ice.  When I first started I went through a bajillion snow storms in Chicago and I decided I was done with that.   But I do remember the ramps in your state and they sucked. :D

On a side note you guys need to respect every truck driver you see.  They have a much harder life than most people have a clue about, lots and lots of loneliness, mixed in with sleep deprivation.  Which is never any good when it comes to road rage.  Trust me you will lose every time if you fuck with a trucker.  And don't go around them when they are turning!  If you do you are likely to die!!!

Ha the metro area in my state actually isn't as bad for snow or ice compared to the south of the state.

And yeah I know better then to screw with truck drivers....whenever I see a truck trying to merge into another lane I let them in, ect. (My Grandpa was a truckdriver so I have the utmost respect for them)  I've often said that being a truckdriver has to be one of the harder jobs out there.
