Forums - General Discussion - Andy Whitfield is leaving Spartacus.

That show is just pure awesome, and i'm saddened to hear that Andy has to leave because his cancer has returned. its really unfair because he just finished beating it, and i think he was probabily looking foward to series 2 after having beating cancer. but i mean that aside, i hope he pulls through it!!

Really sad for Whitfield. I enjoyed the show, though I wasn't that thrilled with it in the beginning. John Hannah and Lucy Lawless really are the stars of the show.

Even though it would have been good for Andy to reprise his role in series 2, and the circumstances of his departure are potentially tragic for him, he is readily replaceable and the series won't miss a beat.

This series is like 300 but in Rome yes?

For those who never heard of this series, I'll explain.

Back in Roman times, when there was alot of slavery and what-not, a certain slave-turn-gladiator named Spartacus led one of the largest slave revolts in Roman history.

HBO found this to be a great story to work with so they made a series based on these historical events, to a certain degree that is. I believe this was supposed to be the second series based on Spartacus that HBO has made. I'm not entirely sure, but what I do know is that this was one of the best. Andy Whitfield plays as Spartacus, the lead male role, who was diagnosed with cancer a while back but his doctors gave him the green light after treatment. Now, it seems that it has returned and his doctors strongly advise him to start heavy treatment. Unfortunately for us, the image of Andy Whitfield as Spartacus is etched into our brains and any other actor playing as the part just wont do.

Yeah, of course its sad that his cancer has returned, but i agree i couldnt imagine the show without him, so i think they could postpone the show until hes recovered. however of course, as fans we should just forget the show, its important he just makes it through the treatment.
