Forums - Sales - Reach will cause 360 yearly software to surpass PS3

Heavy Rain, GoW3, Uncharted 2 and all the Move games should offset Halo and Fable this holiday. Then you got GT5 which could sell about 4-5 million this year. BO will give a bit to 360 and so will MoH, not to mention Kinect games as well but I don't see Kinect playing a big roll in the software department with how expensive the gimmicky games are. PS3 right now is 3 million ahead but will likely lose that lead within the month but once HR, GoW3 and UC2 begin to pick due to boost in hardware we should see software begin to favor PS3. The problem with 360 is it hasn't really had any memorable games out for the 3/4 of this year so nothing to really get bumped up except for maybe Alan Wake, FF13 and RDR.

kinect games will defenitly outsell move games initially. This is short term sales we are talking about. Halo Reach will offset the 3.4mil lead, heavy rain, GoW3, Uncharted 2, and part of GT5. Fable 3 will outsell Littlebigplanet for the year for sure due to being more frontloaded and having a few extra weeks of selling. Fallout New Vegas will give 360 a million over the ps3. CoD black ops should give the 360 another 2-3mil lead as it is far more frontloaded. I think Medal of Honor will be pretty even in sales. Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, Mass Effect 2, Sniper, Splinter Cell will give the 360 another 2-3mil. 360 should win.

Move is already out. HR and RE:5 combined should see sales of about 1-1.5 million units considering the success of RE4: Wii Edition. Move will have a massive advantage with the amount of games releasing for it (aren't there like 28 games or something like that this month?) and at a cheaper price as well. Everything else though I agree with but I believe it'll be pretty damn close and if I were to bet I would say the PS3 wins in the end just because of the catalogue of games the PS3 has out this year. Plus the fact that multi-plat games tend to sell much better in EU JP in PS3's favor, enough so to offset whatever multi-plat (BO,MoH,Fallout) sales are in America.

I didn't even consider this... I don't think I could have.

I'm just kind of groovy like that. I have my ways.

Oh and possibly be close to the Wii.

Wii 81,615,431 (-54%) 512,667,413 (6.93)
PS3 63,052,539 (-31%) 265,981,604 (7.08)
X360 59,686,073 (-47%) 375,111,197 (8.71)

As you can see there isn't much in it. The high PS3 software sales relative are probably due to the largeish exclusives released towards the start of the year. Soon the Xbox 360 will retake the software lead for the year. It may actually keep the lead for the remainder of the year given the fact that we're moving into Christmas and the Xbox 360 has traditionally done better in the American market which has traditionally been more Q4 centric than the other two major regions, Japan and Europe.

Your data is not really anything new or surprising considering the attachment rate for 360's has always been much higher then the PS3... the links I pasted below show this.

Not including Halo Reach sales yet, according to VGchartz own data.. Here's the standing on TOTAL Software sold on each unit.. the 360 is far ahead of the PS3 in game sales by nearly 127 MILLION games sold !

*Xbox 360-library= 642 titles .... total number of games sold worldwide= 393.6 million units

*PS3---------library= 484 titles .... total number of games sold worldwide= 266.9 million units

PS3 source data:   http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&publisher=&console=PS3&genre=&minSales=0&results=1000&sort=Total

Xbox 360 source data:  http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&publisher=&console=X360&genre=&minSales=0&results=1000&sort=Total

i dont think so alone reach can out sell ps3 software yea u can say reach plus other xbox software can outsell ps3 software but not alone reach same goes 4 gt5

I'll admit, when I saw the topic title I thought "if the gap more than 5 million it's rather improbable, but under it there's a fair chance."  It's under, and with how explosive Reach's sales will be, it is fairly likely.  In the long term it won't sell that much more than GT5, but it's increadibly front-heavy in comparison.  Still, it's a phyrric victory at best, as every year has been for both of them since 2006.  It's like a competition to see whose new mud-hole will be smaller after Nintendo stomps it into them.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Haha, I decided I want to finally post! I've been reading a lot of what you guys say, very intertaing stuff. Anywho, the one thing many people have to keep in mind is that Halo & COD are up against each other this holiday season. It's possible that the sales of COD will be higher on the 360. However, the only thing that rivals COD on the PS3 is MOH (in terms of shooters that is). So the sales of Halo & COD could hurt one of another since they are both popular franchises. Where as many will choose COD over MOH anyday of the year because of the hype surrounding COD.

So who really knows how the sales between COD on both consoles will play out.

GT5 says hello to your silly idea....

GT5 is just one game.

Like I said.

America in Q4 is typically the strongest region. The Xbox 360 is relatively stronger than the PS3 in the strongest region whereas the PS3 typically does better during the year relative to the Xbox 360 than it does in Q4 due to strong early year sales in Japan and relatively consistant sales in Europe.

Besides... Halo: Reach will sell more copies than GT5 does in this calendar year and remove that difference. GT games typically aren't as front loaded.

So you admit you're seletively setting artificial time frames to make your arguement work?

And don't give me any of that 'yearly sales' clearly covers a defined 12 month period nonsense either!

Actually.. you might be right.  Although I think this GT might actually be more front loaded due to the delay, etc.   But we'll see.  In the end, we always see.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

bullshit dc universe online and the agency are going to get both above 7 million sales. and fifa 11 is going to sell more then black ops/ends sarcasm

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Only when you'll admit you're a spy sent by Steve Jobs in order to spread the reality distortion field onto non Apple customers in order to support iOS dominance!!!!

However the chances of you admitting you're a spy are like the same chances that the PS3 will outsell the Wii on Christmas eve! Desperate parents aren't as desperate as you might hope...

Tease.
