As you can see there isn't much in it. The high PS3 software sales relative are probably due to the largeish exclusives released towards the start of the year. Soon the Xbox 360 will retake the software lead for the year. It may actually keep the lead for the remainder of the year given the fact that we're moving into Christmas and the Xbox 360 has traditionally done better in the American market which has traditionally been more Q4 centric than the other two major regions, Japan and Europe.

America in Q4 is typically the strongest region. The Xbox 360 is relatively stronger than the PS3 in the strongest region whereas the PS3 typically does better during the year relative to the Xbox 360 than it does in Q4 due to strong early year sales in Japan and relatively consistant sales in Europe.

Besides... Halo: Reach will sell more copies than GT5 does in this calendar year and remove that difference. GT games typically aren't as front loaded.

I personally do not like the excuse of early in the year exclusives. 

Almost everyone expected Alan Wake to blow right past Heavy Rain. Many expected MAG to bomb hard. Many expected GoW3 to sell less than 3M, many expected ME2 sales greater than the 2M it hit recently, many expected better numbers for Splinter Cell as well, not to mention the 360 version of RDR sold quite a bit more than the PS3 version.

Sales aren't where the are because PS3 had plenty of exclusives. Sales are where they are because the 360 exclusives underperformed sales wise.

Also Squilliam, you say that GT5 is only one game, but so is Halo Reach. Plus you forget about LittleBigPlanet 2 that comes in November.

Sports champions should sell a couple of million too thanks to the bundle, but so can Kinectianimals

Kinectimals isn't bundled though.

I would replace Kinectimals with KinectSports.

I definitely think the 360 will have sold more software by the end of the year. Most upcoming multiplatform games will sell better on 360 and there's also Kinect Adventure that should do 3 million based on Microsoft.

It'll be interesting to see how Sports Champions and Kinect Adventures sell respectively as a general indicator of how many PS3/360 owners are adding the peripherals.
