Forums - Sony - PSP2 is real, 'pretty powerful' and in developer's hands.

I remember reading this:

As evidenced by MT Framework Lite and Mobile, Capcom seems to be interested in bringing the framework to multiple platforms. The PSP family could be included in these -- although not the current PSP. Asked about making the framework compatible with PSP, Takeuchi said "At present, there are no plans. However, if the PSP has a next generation version, the hardware specs will presumably rise, so we will probably have to make it compatible."

This was stated by Jun Takeuchi, Capcom's head of production. If Capcom doesn't know that there is a PSP2 I doubt that NetherRealm Studios has it.

Oddly, I am getting a sense of deja vu.

Or maybe Capcom knows not to talk about it when it hasn't been announced yet?

Whoops! Looks like a loose-mouthed developer at Warner Bros. has let a certain cat out of a certain bag, with Mortal Kombat Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick stating that his team has the next generation PlayStation Portable.

"We have a PSP2 in the house and we’re looking at the engine, like what can it support," says Himmerick. "Always a big thing for us is the performance. We’re running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over. We’re definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it’s a pretty powerful machine. We don’t have a 3DS system in house yet, but we’re looking to get one, and we’ll certainly look at what its power is."

Like all good Sony projects, this is looking like one of the worst kept secrets in town. Just like the PSPgo, inFAMOUS 2, Resistance 3 and Killzone 3. Sony is this industry's perpetual leaky faucet.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

well sony has a lot of games coming for psp especially in japan(monster hunter 3g,3rd birthday, etc) so i am certain that they dont want to affect the already low sales of psp,by announcing a successor....when they announce psp sucessor they have to drop the price so maybe they arent ready yet!!!Also it would be really cool if they announce it in ces and launch it in april or sth,so as not to have a long time from announcement to release..like they had with ps3(MAY 2005->MARCH 2007) and psp(MAY 2003->SEPTEMBER 2005)

E3 unveiling, holiday 2011 launch is my bet now

ala 3DS (well for Japan as it'll be out in Japan at the end of this yeaR)

So basically 3DS will have a 1 year headstart on it in all regions.

And PLEASE sony not too powerful.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Will it have a touch screen? If Sony thinks the move will put the PS3 on top, they are likely copying the other successful Nintendo system as well.

No knocking the system, just surmising a likely scenario.

If they do that, but also include rip-offs of DS hits, then I will start knocking it.
