Smart move.  From's last PS3 exclusive action RPG kinda bombed on them.

Not really. They said it sold better than they expected. Not sure how to take that besides it didn't bomb. :P

And this doesn't rule out a Demon's Souls 2 either, which would obviously be a PS3 exclusive.

They expected 3DGH to sell less than 13k?  I'm sorry, I just can't believe that... source?

I can't even find a single region in which it did less than 13k.

It did 13k in Japan according to Famitsu.  And Japan was the only place From published it.

So we're assuming that From Software gave the publishing rights to Atlus for free?

And if we're looking at only Japan wouldn't putting the game on the 360 not help much at all?

True, Project Dark isn't even releasing on 360 in the region, so Japan's a nonfactor.  I do think a western 360 release would've made some sense for 3DGH, as it is for PD.  The game already ran on a 360 compatible engine (3DS compatible too btw, From/SS should consider a 3DS port).

According to VGChartz it's sold 27k in Japan. Still not too great but double the number Famitsu have it at.

And it's gone on to sell 225k Worldwide.

I'm pretty sure they're pretty pleased with it's performance worldwide, even if it didn't do all too well in JP.

And even if they aren't too pleased with it. Who seriously expected THAT game to sell gangbusters anywhere?

Another Century's Episode: R shows that they could still rely on PS3-only for a game if they want to too IMO, even if it is a Mecha game.

VGC is likely overtracking for Japan, though looking at the Famitsu 2009 top 1000 it did sell a little more...

  • Famitsu: 17,300
  • Mediacreate: 16,022
  • VGC: 27, 217

...and no doubt VGC is significantly overtracking 3DGH for America, just as they did Demon's Souls.  Unfortunately, 3DGH didn't do well enough for Index to give figures for it in their last quarterly report (unlike DS, which they actually highlighted again for solid sustained sales), so we'll probably never get a more accurate readjustment unless there's an NPD leak, and even then that's not a sure thing for adjustments it seems (hello 150k Valkyria). :/

From did push 3DGH pretty hard though, and it had a ton of press.  The game was an epic bomb considering the attention and promotion it got nationally, though R&D costs were probably pretty cheap at least, and I'd say it's probably done well in America, even if not as high as VGC pegs it.

But I thought it did less than 13k!?

It did 13k before dropping out of the top 30.  It did 17k total for the year (and likely ever).

Demons Souls was a beast of a game.
I guess Project Dark will change his name to Demons Souls for sure, because Demons Souls have reached a big name, at least for hardcore gamer

I think you missed the thread. As long as Project Dark is multiplatform, it can't/won't ever be called "Demon's Souls 2".

unless sony gives them the rights to the game.

Why would they? Demons souls is one of their most memorable new IPs this gen
