Forums - PC - Portal - I still can't get over it

Portal was released almost four years ago now, admittedly I played it for myself only a few months ago, but even months after I still can't get over it. It's such an amazingly well designed game, any gripes I can say I have are tiny little nitpicks on a masterpiece of a game. I am not only in love with the game itself but the philosophy in the design and the amazing talent that went into all aspects of it.

And it seems a lot of people feel the same way I do, looking at a Youtube search for "Portal Still Alive", if you combine all the videos of the end credits it's well over 12 million views and it's still getting loads of hits to this day. I think if you are ever looking for a game that made an 'impact' on people, Portal is a great example if not the best there is.

My only hope for Portal 2 is that it is worthy to follow in such footsteps.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

pff that's already confirmed

With everything we've heard and sing of Portal 2 so far I don't see how it could not be better

It's really that good, isn't it?  The first few times Glados delivery sounds a little "off"... the first time you find one of the "rooms" that hint at what's going on.

Such a simple idea so perfectly executed.  And, arguably, the new best mad female voiced computer with attitude since Shodan in System Shock.  How I long for Portal 2 (and HL2 EP3 as well).

Hurry up you buggers.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

But when she says "you monster" it just sends chills down your spine

Words can't describe how much I love this game. I seriously CAN'T wait for Portal 2.

Portal was cool in the beginning, but once you get to the big turnover (I think every knows what I'm talking about), it went from being a cool puzzle game to one of the most awesome and compelling games I've played in years.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

the turnover was really well handled.  TBH the ease with which Portal unveiled its story ran circles around many titles with lots of cutscenes and ideas of being great narratives.
