Random string of thoughts, I'm bored and the internet was here, so you know...

So, over at Gamefaqs, someone was asking for some good RPGs and about 3 people all recommended RoF, to which I instantly objected because in my opinion, RoF is a terrible excuse for a RPG. I'd just finished Tekken 6 at the time and it suddenly hit me, Tekken 6 does a better job of being a RPG than RoF.

For me, the thing that makes a RPG is if it has a good story as well as all the other hallmarks of RPGs and Tekken 6 does a better job of it.

By Tekken 6, I'm specifically referring to "Scenario mode".  I ragged on it at first because I wasn't used to Fighters giving you such indepth exposure to its story, usually it's always just done in passing and tacked on as an after thought, to be honest, that's what I expected with Tekken 6's SM, but after I got over the initial shock, I was able to get into it.

The story, albeit cliched in parts  actually exists and has interesting twists and turns. Whilst I don't think that Lars is a unique hero, he does however make a competent hero and fits the story well. Character progression/development actually exists. There's a variety of things to do and ways to approach it, whereas RoF is just a one trick pont and once it shows it off...I.e in the first 10mins, you are stuck with it till the rest of the game. To add insult to injury, there are no distractions- no, the Arena doesn't count because it's the exact same thing as the main game. Whilst the same can be said for Tekken 6, I'll argue that it at leasts tries to add a different slant to it, Survival is not really the same thing as Scenario mode or even Team Battle mode.

I could go on but what does everyone else think, agree/disagree?

I'm not very far into Resonance of Fate, but I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot so far. Deny!

How many hours in are you?

About 7 hours in, I guess. I'm only on Chapter 2, because I've spent a lot of time doing random fights and messing around with the battle system (which I personally find super fun and addictive). Who knows, though? Maybe I'll start to hate it over the next 14 chapters.

My main gripe is the story to be honest, the gameplay I can stomach if the story is manageable...for me...RoF's story was just...an abyss.

Lol. My bro and I made RPG jokes a while back about how Tekken 6 made us grind for money. My method is to just replay Kazuya's stage in SM repeatedly with a good bonus money item equiped to both characters.Helps if you work fast. Get at least 600K each go minimum.

ou, on the grinding front, RoF beats Tekken hands down but for Tekken, equipping "money up" items, makes it much easier but luckily for me, I never had to.

yea ill say that reasoncance of fates story was pretty bad until the end. nothing is really told until the end and even then your stuck looking confused. though i did like the moments of comedy though it happens way less often than people make it out. truthfull i believe if namco really tryed hard to make the scenario mode a full rpg it would beat reasonance of fate but since its kinda tacked on ill give it to reasonce overall but i kinda like tekkens better lol. if that makes sense.
