Forums - Microsoft - Halo : Combat Evolved is nothing special...

Maybe because you're like 9 years late. How many 9 year old games are still fun today? Not that many.

I just played through RE2, 3, CV, Half life (and expansions) for the first time through and thought they were all great.  Good games age well, Halo doesn't; this is coming from a person whose played halo for several hundred hours,  the first one isn't that great.  Halo 2 has much better multiplayer which is the only really good thing about the game.  The story is terrible if you ask me, character development practically isn't even existant in the hero and the plot is a typical sci-fi blend.

Halo on PC? Yep, it's a pretty average game. But on Xbox and with controller...  I must say it's pretty cool. Especially multiplayer!

I'm playing with my PS3 controller fixed to the PC.. so....

There are lots of old games that are still fun. Lots of Halo fans still think this one has the best campaign mode.

Nostalgia.  My first Halo game was Halo 3.  After that, I went back and bought Halo 1 & 2.  I liked Halo 3 the most.  Most people won't go back and play the games they loved so much.  It tends to have a negative effect on the memory of the game......at least for me.  Remembering games as they were, when they were cutting edge makes a lot of people say things like that.  That's my theory/experience, anyway.

heh yea the "at least for me" was needed... i still rock almost all my old games... sm3 is sitting im my snes, great for playing while dirnking beers with friends, and going through ff 7 on my ps 2 ... playing some mercs on xbox, though i think ill whip out halo ce after work and have some friends over, dont thnk we have played the multiplayer on it with my 47 inch tv before i only rocked a 22 back then. oh and a game of civil war generals 2 through email based turn system...

I just played it yesterday in my Uni's PC. Halo should have stayed in PC along with Microsoft.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Wait, that is true. They should have focused on PC and thing else then.

I also had purchased Halo for the pc around 2006, just to see what all the xbox hype had been about. I hated it. I couldn't see where all the fun was, the ending was horrible, boring, repetitive, and simply did nothing for me. Characters didn't appeal to me at all, and the multiplayer was the only piece that made me play the game. More like, the sniper pistol, was the only piece that made me continue playing, and eased the pain of spending 19.99$ on that purchase. Later on, I got Halo 3, loved it, every part of it. Then I purchased Halo 2, for pc, and the multiplayer was obviously what kept this game going, not the single player. Halo 2's single player was obviously much better then Halo, but, Halo 3 was king in terms of diversity and co op, etc, but you'd expect that from sequels. Now, Halo Reach just looks phenomenal...a phenomenal hell of 13 year old kids cursing out your mother.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Because it is nothing special. The reason people like it so much is because MS hyped it to hell and back, it was the only thing on the xbox with any mainstream appeal that was decent, and because a lot of them had never played an fps before. Certainly not a PC one.

what a load of nonsense.

"a lot of them had never played a FPS, certainly not a PC one"

so a lot had probably not played a FPS and never played a PC one... generalisation or what?

Question just for you...

Killzone (1) or Halo CE?

You think I'm a killzone fan because of my avatar? Afraid not. Both series are mediocre, 7/10 games.

Halo CE on the PC was crap, only a 83 metacritc.

Halo CE on xbox was amazing and had a metacritc of 97.

Also It means very little coming from a ps3 only owner, who is playing the PC version of a game that came out in 2001.

Same game, different standards. On PC there were dozens of games that did what halo did bigger and better.

why?

I personally don't like Microsoft in the console market. I don't want them as competition for Sony and Nintendo. My two cents.

I guess opinions do differ greatly, as I found Combat Evolved (next to ODST) to be the most enjoyable in the series.

The true Halo fans feel the same
