Why are people buying the PS3? Both the 360 and PS3 look cool, offer sick games, and the only real difference between the two is blu-ray. Also Arcade 360's are $199, and HD gaming that cheap is pretty appealing.

According to some charts by some analysts a while back. Xbox360 should be having negative sales.
It surely just doesn't make sense 'cause charts are the truth.
Well mines is out of RROD warranty and I'm obviously not going to give up on a 100 360 game collection (not including my 40 or so XBLA titles and DLC) and just switch to a PS3, so when mine breaks I'll get a more reliable (well hopefully reliable) 360 that looks better, sounds better, runs cooler, uses more electricity (even if thats just a few dollars, it adds up over the years) and has more features. Last I checked MS still wants $100 for a repair in the US and to me I rather spend the $300 (or less) and just get a new console rather then refurbing over and over.
It's about the design and RROD issue for previous owners, but to people who don't own a 360? It's a damn good time to own one. Especially at the low price.
It's just that simple.
I believe some did not buy the older consoles for the fear of RRoD. Now they are buying it as they think it would last longer than the previous ones.

The PS3 has exclusives in many different genres, the x360 mostly has shooters, shooters, shooters and a few others.
The ten best sold x360-games include 7 shooters, 2 action/adventures and 1 music game (with Halo: Reach and COD: Black Ops coming up the last 2 will probably clear the way for a 9 out of 10 shooter-list with GTA IV having a lot of shooting in it), while the ten best sold PS3-games include just 4 shooters and Resistance: Fall of Man will be kicked out of the list by LBP or Uncharted2 within a few weeks.

People have been conditioned to buy a new console every 4-5 years. They can't help it. Even if it's a console they already own or if it's a console they previously passed by.

It's true. Most people who bought PS2 bought 2 to 3 PS2's during its 10 years.
The redesign is sexy.

I expect a certain racing game will be there soon too!!
