There's no reason not to have a GTA on the 3DS unless they just want to leave money on the table for others to take.  3DS will be the third pillar Nintendo said the DS would be.

Hrm... I don't think there will be. Both the GBA and DS ones have been, well, half-assed compared to the console versions, probably to show that the market for "weaker graphical versions" doesn't exist. And I do see Rockstar as a graphical whoring company, so the 3DS will be skipped, I think.

For everyone that isn't aware:

- Gameboy Color had a GTA: http://uk.gameboy.ign.com/objects/005/005473.html bombed?

- GBA had a GTA. Bombed!

- DS had a GTA. Meh!

- 3DS - "doesn't have"

It doesn't make much sense...

Out of comparison for how other versions were, I skipped both 1 and 2's GBC releases; the game style was similar to the PS1 (and DC) versions of them. However, GTA3, released in 2001, was when things took off for the series; people liked the 3D aspect, with the 2D aspect not to be seen again for new games. They saw that 3D is what the fans of the series wanted. So why, in 2004 (and 2009), would you do another 2D version, unless, like I said in my other post, it was a half-assed effort. They knew that 2D wasn't as popular, but by doing the games in that style for the GBA (and DS), they could try to justify there "not being a market" for the franchise with the lower sales.

@dunno01  your giving the DS way to much credit in the power department. ITs a weak system, there was no way they were going to give you a 3D version of GTA on DS without is being a buggy mess. They could do that on PSP because its way more powerful. YOu would honestly rather have a crappy 3d version of GTA for DS or a good 2d game thats a throwback to the early days. I rather the latter

But it wasn't a throwback. It was them being artsy. Plus I guess you never heard of COP The Recruit. Sure the game itself wasn't anything to write home about, but it showed what Rockstar could have done with a 3D GTA on the DS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

@lordtheknight  I have heard of Cop I was actual looking forward to it but surprise, it was a buggy mess. Im sure GTA would have only been slighty better had they gone that route. You cant properly do a 3d GTA game on DS, either they would have to sacrifice and take out things and the game will end up like COP and suck or they cram everything and it will be all messed up. Your giving the DS way to much credit in terms of horsepower.  AS for Chinatown, how were they being artsy??? cause of cell shading??? it was still a top down GTA no matter what graphic style they used

Onyide, C.O.P. The Recruit was developed by Velez & Dubai Dev Team.  I believe I can say with a level of certainty that borders on astronomically absolute that Rockstar could have done a better job than the developer of such classic hits as Lucky Luke.  In fact, C.O.P. The Recruit is their first title to ever make it to Metacritic.   The 12 other titles are nowhere to be found on it.

@Viper1  a 55 out of 100 is nothing to be proud of, thats an F. As for Rockstar, maybe there was no way to cram that good old 3d GTA on DS without making some sacrifices, maybe they realized that and not even tried to do it. Chinatown Wars got way better reviews. As it stands now the only way to get portable GTA goodness is with PSP and maybe 3DS in the future

Illogical.  A piss poor developer proved a sandbox title could be developed on the DS.  I actually reviewed C.O.P. The Recruit.  And it's biggest problems actually were not with the game engine itself.  Content, dichotmous difficulty and a poorly implemented targeting system were the problems.  Each a factor that Rockstar would not have a problem with.

@Viper1 not to mention that the world itself was kinda lifeless. As it stands now its kinda irrelevant. THe DS is done we can only hope for Rockstar to put there efforts into the 3DS which i know for a fact that that handheld could handle it no problem. Until that day comes I guess ill have to continue with LCS on the go

Plus even if the game didn't run perfectly, a) GTA games don't run perfectly anyway, and b) the game ran at 60fps, so cutting it down to 30 would help the performance.
