Where the hell has he said xbox ? Other platforms doesn't necessarily mean the 360. Selective journalism to gather hits FTW !

They made an assumption but is it a bad one? I mean looking at the state of PC gaming that would hardly open them up to a massive new audience.

Looking at the kind of games they make I dunno if they'll want to go for the Wii market. That leaves PS3 and 360.

but the PC is the home of the adventure game, and adventure (excluding "action" adventures, read shooters/brawlers with adventuring) games do better on PC than any other platform so it is logical that the latest branch in the genre would come to the PC lol.

They used to do well on PC. But Heavy Rain sales show where a lot of potential is.

Do you think a future game similar to Heavy Rain would do better on PC than on xbox 360?

Yes.

Why.

Female audience.

Did I miss the news that girls don't own Xboxes, or that a large portion of the people buying Heavy Rain were female?

Threads/polls like this on this site always make me sad with their results.  Proves how selfish some gamers can be.

Just being honest, those gamers on this site seem to be PS3 fundamentalists.  You look at the Mass Effect 2 threads and you don't find 360 gamers coming on there and saying how horrible it is that they get to play such a great game.  You look at the FFXIII coming to 360 in Japan threads and people are ripping SE.  You look at GTAIV DLC eps coming to PS3 threads and 360 owners don't care.

This thread isn't even about a GAME but about a DEVELOPER and look at the poll results.

Exclusives are for 1st party developers.  That all hit its stride last gen, when the PS2, Xbox and GC were all so close in power.  It just made sense for 3rd party devs to, not only maximize how much money they could make but also how many gamers would be able to play their games.  If you really love Heavy Rain because of the game that developer made and not the fact its an exclusive for the console you own, then this wouldn't matter.  Heck, I'm playing through ME2 right now again and the first thought that popped in my head is "man ... PS3 owners are in for such a treat; I sure hope they pick it up".

Seriously, this here has been the most disappointing thread/poll I've seen in this community in a long time.  And that's saying a lot.  I thought we were better than this ...

Yeah, but Mass Effect 2 won't get ruined for 360/PC because of being port to PS3...

I don't see Microsoft investing money on studios, and I don't see them bringing anything new in terms of software. Sony is different and they made Heavy Rain possible and a big success. Also, the PS3 audience is different than the 360s or any other platform. PS3 owners had a large part in making Heavy Rain a large sucess. Heavy Rain would've flopped HARD and miserably on any other console, mostly on the shooters-love nest: the xbox 360.

Wow.  You just proved my point and probably didn't even realize you were doing it.  Wow.

i hope their next game is for the 360 and ps3, more ppl need to experience their style of game design.  :)

I don't think there's a gaming system on the market that has a higher percentage of male owners than the 360. I don't know the ratio but I wouldn't be suprsised if 80 to 90% of 360 owners are male.
I didn't say a large portion of the people buying HR were female. I'm saying that imo many women would love HR (and I bet some already do). Many women love the broad genre of graphic adventure games (incl. all subgenres from classic p&c games to Prof. Layton puzzle style to the modern browser "casual" adventures to interactive movies - see also The Sims franchise which imo and fortunately is not a mere boring life sim anymore but an adventure game in soap opera style). MANY women love crime and thriller stories and games based on them (e.g. CSI games sell quite good on all systems), that's why I think many women would be interested in HR or a similar successor if it would run on their PCs/laptops. Plus: The mainstream thriller story of David Cage's last game would cater even more to the female audience than to the male. And where are the largest female gamer audiences these days? Clearly on PC (and on DS/Wii).

Wise Move, Why Alienate such a huge market that 360 has, Seems Foolish in my opinion!!

So you're saying there is a huge market for a title like HEAVY RAIN outside of the PS3? Hmmm.... where were you people back in 2008 and 2009?

Um I didnt say that, All Im saying is Why cut out other potential buyers?

Remember Quantic Dreams isnt a first party company and yes Sony has helped them out alot but thy are an "independent company" and if maximizing profits is by going multi, then by all means they should

Besides If I was a developer I'd want as many people as possible try out my awesome games too

Why go out on your own when you have a steady stream of cash, great support from a publisher and a very happy fanbase because of that publisher? You don't even have to worry about money once your making a good game, SONY does.

SuckerPunch has things right.

"Why alienate the huge market the 360 has?" That's indicating a large market for this type of game outside of the PS3. Also, they profted from HEAVY RAIN, so $ is hardly an issue. I just wonder where all these David Cage/HEAVY RAIN supporters were before.

They were busy supporting Gabe Newell

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

To people who are saying heavy rain would have been a bigger success on xbox 360 are wrong. Sure xbox 360 may have the highest attach ratio but a game like heavy rain just wouldn't sell well on a userbase who loves shooters. A great example would be alan wake. Alan wake was a story driven game that would have actually sold very well on ps3, well because ps3 owners love story based games. Im not saying alan wake sales were that bad on xbox 360 but it just proves that the 360 doesn't have a strong userbase for story driven games like heavy rain. Also there is a something about games published by sony that just makes you know the game will have quality. There is always somethign in sony games. When you play the game the 1st time you know that sony published the game.

Boo, Sony quick, buy Quantic Dream!!

In all seriousness, after the great support they got from Sony, and the incredible succcess of Heavy Rain, I don't even know why he even considers it. When they go multiplat, they surely won't get Sony as publisher. Tough luck on finding another publisher who supports their next game that much. AFAIK, Sony is the absolute top, when it comes to publishers.

Ahh well, they can always go to Activision. XD

EA with the EA Partners program? That's got Valve, Insomniac and Respawn in it, and I think EA would be interested in working with Quantic Dream to be honest.

I don't know, I think he's got a point. Sure, other publishers may be willing to work with Quantic. But with Sony, they already have a foot in the door, they have a "comfort zone", so to speak.

I get that Cage may want to expand his offerings, but considering what he says in the same article regarding Sony, it may not be the wisest move.

Time will tell, but I think there are publishers out there who can provide QD the ressources it needs to shine. One of those are of course Sony, but being with Sony limits the potential audience.

I understand why anyone would be sceptical of this, David Cage too, but if they want to expand their market, then something needs to happen.

Hmm it's an interesting gamble.

Look at Heavensly Sword guys - HS was quite succesfull with sales and reviews as well as gamers opinions but they chosen to develop new multiplatform IP now they have game which has absolutly no hype and almost noone talks about it.

It will be interesting to see but i think Enslaved will strugle to reach number of pieces HS sold.

Same can happen to Heavy Rain guys- once everything is said and done it might burn them instead of bringing big profits. Compared to that doing another game with Sony this time with move support built in from start would be safe bet into how many sales they can get
